The Gun Emplacements on Magnetic Island’s Forts Walk is much more than an amazing scenic lookout—it’s a tangible piece of WWII history with a fascinating story
Built in 1943 during World War II, the Forts complex was designed to defend the Townsville Harbour. Today, this heritage-listed site features impressive remains of the Gun Emplacements—a must-see detour offering breathtaking views all the way to Cape Cleveland and Florence Bay
The gun emplacements sit amid bunkers, ammunition houses, a command post, searchlight tower, radar station, and a signal station—all camouflaged and constructed directly into the island’s rugged granite boulders 🙌
The Forts with the Gun Emplacements remains one of the best-preserved WWII coastal defence installations in Queensland.
Huzzah!!
