Following her recent visit to Bullo as our first artist-in-residence, New Zealand-based textile artist Meg Gallagher has created an exclusive, one-off piece of art which is currently up for bidding via charity auction, with 100% of proceeds supporting the vitally important work of our long standing conservation partner, Australian Wildlife Conservancy.

Meg’s piece, titled ‘The Rhythm’, is a tribute to the intricate ecosystem of Bullo’s lands – the vast sky, the winding river, the red earth, and the lush greens, which all exist in a delicate balance, each feeding the other to create a circulatory system that pulses in a rhythm. Honouring that complexity, Meg intertwined into the piece denim jean offcuts worn by our Ringers and cotton dyed by hand using red ochre from our land.
This is a rare opportunity to bring a very special piece of Bullo home, whilst making a difference. Bidding is now open and closes on 24 November 2025.

Our vision for Bullo River Station has always been for pastoral and conservation activities to work together – where a profitable food-producing business co-exists with an utterly thriving natural environment, representing a profound change in the pastoral business model and approach.

This report delves into our efforts in biodiversity conservation, water management, and sustainable agriculture, while also acknowledging the areas where we are striving to improve and innovate. We’re delighted to be featured in Condé Nast Traveller’s ‘The Gold List 2025 – The Best Hotels and Resorts in the World’ among an incredible list of global hotels. This annual compendium highlights properties not just for their beauty, comfort, or impeccable service, but for the emotional connections they inspire.

Chloe Sachdev says: “Bullo River Station is a snapshot of Australia’s hard yakka life: a sepia-toned outback fantasy where guests, dressed in boots and wide-brim hats, swoop in on helicopters… Days are spent getting dusty by visiting waterholes, angling for barramundi, and saying hello to the 2,000 or so floppy-eared Brahman cows. Up above, kookaburras and cockatoos flock, and beady-eyed crocodiles float through the muddy rivers. Ancient Aboriginal rock art depicting a land before time is etched into rugged red cliffs and ridge lines. The landscape of waterfalls, craggy escarpments, and gushing rivers swallows you whole.” - Condé Nast Traveler

We’re thrilled to be featured on ABC News and this week’s ABC Landline in an immersive piece on how we are balancing our pastoral and conservation activities at Bullo River Station.

Interviewed by Kristy O’Brien, owner, Julian Burt says: “The whole idea with Bullo is to consider both (pastoral and conservation) and not to degrade the country, to look after it, to make it better than it was, to have more biodiversity than when you found it.”

To find out more about Bullo’s approach to regenerating the land, future-proofing cattle operations, its flourishing wildlife and ground-breaking partnership with Australian Wildlife Conservancy, explore the full news article via the link below, and watch ABC Landline this Sunday, 15th October, at 12:30pm (or catch up on ABC Iview).

We’d like to say thank you for the messages of support regarding flooding in the Kimberley. While Bullo River Station is out of the impacted area, many of those we work with have been impacted, so please consider a holiday in Kununurra to help these local businesses.

Take advantage of subsidised flights that will be available from January 25 to plan your Easter break or April school holidays – and don’t forget to include a few nights at Bullo, we’d love to welcome you.

A rare opening has become available across the Easter long weekend – April 7th – 10th 2023.

April at Bullo is a spectacular time – at the end of the wet season, the waterholes are full, and the majestic waterfalls are flowing freely. The surrounding landscape is lush and green, perfect for exploring, be it on foot, four-wheel drive, or helicopter. Drop a line in the Bullo River at dawn before visiting the cattle yards to meet our resident Brahmans, Shorthorn and Wagyu. Enjoy a delicious lunch, cooked on a cast iron campfire alongside Marlee’s Bath before visiting ancient Aboriginal rock art sites, or head out in the helicopter to explore the winding gorges and waterfalls, with a stop at a remote swimming hole for a cooling dip.

To book your outback escape for this popular long weekend, or to enquire about other 2023 season dates, email [email protected].
