“We loved staying at Emma’s cottage - so cosy and beautifully styled, steeped in history as well. Emma was a great host and was very responsive. The cottage was in a great location and the wooden floors, cast iron bed and natural light in the kitchen was just enchanting. Would definitely go back.” Rosie

At A Thousand Pines, we sing the praises of what some people call 'clutter'. Meaningful clutter, is. a form of self-expression. Old books, framed portraits of strangers who just needed saving and rehanging, dinted biscuit tins, faded doilies, overflowing textiles in different fabrics, mismatched cutlery and my favourite of all - a battered and bruised trunk from Scotland that serves as our coffee table. All of these combined, turned into a feeling of home. A feeling of sanctuary, albeit, small.
We want our guests to fall in love with this theory from the beginning until the end of their stay too.

1. She woke with sunlight dappled on her face. Dressed in white, she stepped out through the French doors. She didn’t have search for warmth, it would find her.
2. But first, she remembered what this space once was.
3. Desolate, void of life but waiting to be embraced.
4. A secret garden.
5. Spend the 2026 summer amongst our over abundance of lambs ear, creeping jasmine, daisies and fairy lights. Witness the flowers in new life, in your new year.

Merry Christmas and now, a happy new year!
We ‘launched’ the cottage and opened the calendar up for bookings on the 9th of August - it feels like a lifetime ago. However, the excitement of hearing your phone ping whenever a new booking is made, hasn’t faded, and I don’t think it will. We are so fortunate to have had so many wonderful guests through that green door, and even though we don’t met them in person, you do truly get to know a tiny bit of their stories. I hope 2026 continues to affords us that privilege.
And thank you to the brilliant Ballarat business community. The appreciation we feel towards and and their support is endless! 🍂
