Great news for the Beechy! 🍻🏨
Yanti, Steve, their family, and everyone who has held hope for the Beechy Hotel — we’re excited to share that the Beechy Hotel has found its new owner, Gordon Gardner.
Gordon has strong historical roots in the area and, with the support of his family, is keen to reopen both the accommodation and the pub.
And yes — we’ve passed on the message about bringing the OMG Burger back to the menu 🍔
We wish Gordon all the very best and hope the whole community will get behind him as the Beechy Hotel begins this exciting new chapter.

The Ditchley Park Hotel was a halfway house between Colac and Apollo Bay, close to where Beech Forest is today. The photo is dated 1891, when the hotel was reasonably new, apparently built from the timber of one tree by licensee John Gardner. That may explain the large stump in the foreground.

In 1914, Gardner opened a new Ditchly Park Hotel near the Beech Forest railway station, and the former hotel became known as "Ditchley House", operating as a boarding house. In February 1915, a fire started in the laundry, burning down the old hotel and an adjoining billiard saloon, hairdresser's shop, and boot shop.

An article reporting on the 1915 fire is available on the link to the Colac Reformer of 4 February 1915 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article154233963

Last week, I posted a photo of the Ditchley Park Hotel. That was only part of the photo. This is the rest.

Merry Christmas to all from the crew at the Beechy Hotel.
We will be closed Christmas and Boxing Day, reopening 4pm Wednesday 27th December. Our phones are still disabled sorry, will hopefully have them back on by Wednesday.
We’ll be trading our regular hours from 27th through to New Years Eve, then closed from New Years Day until further notice.
New Years Eve we’re putting on a spit roast dinner (bookings will be essential!) and our local DJ Rod will be keeping us partying through to 2024.
We haven’t found a new owner for the Beechy yet, so if you know anyone who needs a tree change get them to call Tony Dickson (agent) 0431 279 400. It’s a great opportunity for someone with hospo in their blood to make it their own!
