A short drive from Bicheno is the Frechinet National Park. One of our favourite spots was Sleepy Bay. A lovely short 10 minute walk, with spectacular views and native orchids spotted along the way.

Just North of Bicheno is the Douglas Apsley National Park. Here are some pictures from one of Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks. The waterhole and gorge walk took 2 hours at a decent pace, although allow longer if returning along the river bed. We even found a waterfall we didn't know about at the end.

The Aurora Australis last night around midnight. Bicheno is a great spot to try and see an Aurora. Just look to the South, and hope it's a lucky night. This was taken near the blow holes.

Bicheno has plenty of its own beautiful beaches to explore, but if you're not beached out, it's only an hours drive to explore the stunning beaches at the Bay of Fires.

Douglas-Apsley National Park is a short drive from Bicheno. The walk to the waterhole is a 1.2km 15 minute return walk, or for more of a challenge, there is a 7km loop walk into Apsley Gorge. Experience deep gorges, and quiet waterholes.

Wineglass Bay lookout, 40 minutes from Bicheno is a great little hike, and easily doable with the kids.
