Taman Damai Country Retreat

Taman Damai Country Retreat "Tranquil Garden"
Tree-change private artist retreat on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, close to bush, beaches & wineries. We grow native edibles.

Garden enshrouded provincial Bittern home on Boonwurrung Country with art studios and artist in residence. We grow native edibles, heritage vegetables and welcome the resident native wildlife. We embrace a contemporary and holistic lifestyle with the addition of homely comforts. We love to share our produce, meals and artistic passions with our private guests all the while providing comfortable co

untry luxuries in our expansive family home. We enjoy the seasonally bountiful and beautiful native gardens and fresh harvests with the convenience of local shopping and parks. We share local Mornington Peninsula wonders - especially the natural and free. The lifestyle here is healthy, raw, ornate and easy.

We can relate to the culture, arts and these inspiring colours while visiting Malaysia. ☺️

Our sea urchin hakea is already awash with stunning blooms but the pincushion hakeas’ blooms are barely beginning to open just at the tops of the trees. Bees love them possibly even more than I do. ☺️

Strawberry guavas picked today. They make the most delicious jelly. That is if there are any left after just eating them straight off the tree. 😝 Mind that tiny hard stone inside.

Comfort food on a freezing day: toasted dark rye sourdough (free from the community house), with fresh figs squished on (free from Jack & Dorothy), then topped with some Greek yoghurt and cinnamon (pantry staples here). A bit of a twist on the jam and cream on scones or toast theme. ☺️ And (notes the artist designer in me) it picks up on the colour palette of nearby wetlands where I went for a walk earlier this week before this shock cold snap!

Three dolphins were cruising around the bay from Somers to Balnarring - so close to shore it was a free show for those of us strolling along the beach in a warm autumn evening. ☺️

A walk through Warringine Reserve from Hastings to Bittern had me admiring the pretty samphire - both ground and bush variants, crabs in the mudflats among the mangroves, kangaroo prints in the oily mud, feathery grasses - not swaying as there was no breeze this warm morning, a white faced heron as it captured and ate a crab, then off the boardwalk onto solid land where I noticed resin leaking out of the acacias… I looked up and wondered if this may be some kind of timely food source for possums… and finishing up with more samphire appreciation. ☺️

Do yourself a favour and take a stroll around Seawinds Gardens while this beautiful Autumn weather holds. Your soul will thank you. ☺️

I don’t sell every native edible species we grow here. Some are best eaten straight off the plant - like these pretty little midyim berries with their adorable purple speckles. Besides being a pretty draping plant I loathe to cut back off a pathway, its nutritional autumn berries complement any dessert. They taste like spiced apple pie! Sorry, I’ve pretty much eaten all this season’s harvest - like on my pancakes with fig and Greek yoghurt and a garnish of flaked almonds - not forgetting a drizzle of maple syrup. 😋

Thank you my lovely daughter-in-law for the delicious lunch I just adored. I had some fresh Thai basil in the garden to add, along with roasted peanuts for crunch. 👌🏼 Perfect compliments to the mee ka tee.
