For me, when winter rolls around in Sydney, I always crave a trip to the Blue Mountains. Standing majestically beneath an ethereal blue haze to the west of Sydney, this magical, UNESCO heritage-listed region is one the most beloved day trip destinations and weekender options for Sydneysiders, and for very good reason….

Best places to stay in Blackheath

For a truly magical stay, book a night or two at Chalets at Blackheath: a beyond-beautiful boutique hotel comprising four standalone cabins (plus a gorgeous, light-flooded communal library) hiding in the bush. A stay here doesn’t come cheap, but it’s so worth it if you’ve got the money to play with.

Winter mushroom season is beginning at the Chalets. Every year, our bushland becomes a little land of mushrooms — quiet, wild, and full of tiny winter magic.

Just 15 minutes from the Chalets, Blackheath’s local apple orchard is quietly one of the most special experiences of the season. Crisp air, rows of trees, and apples picked straight from the branch — sweet, fragrant, and nothing like what you’ll find in a supermarket.

It’s one of those simple, grounding moments that stays with you long after you leave.

Open to the public on Saturdays, guests can wander the orchard and take home a beautiful box of freshly picked apples — a little piece of the mountains to enjoy later.

If you’re staying with us this season, we highly recommend making time for it.

Sometimes the most memorable experiences are the simplest ones 🍃🍎

“Towering eucalypts envelop Chalets at Blackheath, located on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Greater Blue Mountains Area in NSW. Eco-minded principles are woven into every detail and experience at the sustainable boutique retreat.
Alfresco daybeds, deep baths and wood-burning fireplaces feature at all of the four chalets, with each dwelling positioned for privacy and to take in the immersive outlook of beautiful bushland.”
