With all eyes on Welcome Weeks (Oct 3 to Nov 8 ) this week the MonVols concentrated on tidying up the ornamental lawn and Presidents’ Row. Feature trees were weeded and mulched using woodchip generated from previous cleanups. The rhodos in Presidents’ Row (Julia Hanley’s Our Gem and Alan Lush’s President Roosevelt) are in flower and looking good!

Spring Welcome Weeks are fast approaching, when our rhodos and azaleas are in full bloom and the gardens are looking spectacular. It’s the time when we open our tearoom to visitors from all over Australia and the world, and we need your help to do that!

We need volunteers during the period 3rd October to 8th November to assist in the tea room or on the information booth. Do one shift or many!

Another successful AGM was held this afternoon. All positions filled and committee elected. Our President John Anning talked the attending members through some important financial decisions which had to be made and then we heard from John and committee member Julie about their visit to the Dandenong Botanic Garden in Olinda.

And of course, the meeting concluded with a delicious afternoon tea!

Berms have proved very useful in directing water on our sloping site. We then plant them with Lomandra ( our favourite is ‘Tanika’) which holds them together and looks lovely. We completed this one recently.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on 15 August 2026 when you'll be able to vote for members of the management committee.

After the formal proceedings the management committee will make a presentation on the strategy proposed for making the most of BMRS’s financial resources.

Members will be invited to contribute their thoughts on the proposal.

Then, John Anning and Julie Parker will talk about their June visit to the Australian Rhododendron Society (ARS) at the Mt Dandenong Ranges Botanical Garden at Olinda. The ARS faces many of the same issues as BMRS and it is useful to consider how they’re being dealt with. Hopefully, the visit will lead to a fuller, ongoing relationship.

Invite your friends and please bring a plate of shareable food for afternoon tea ☕️🍰
