Beating the heat has become a national past time in these last few days. Belle Bois's mob of kangaroos don't need the news and reminders to look after themselves. They just move their evening grazing into the deep shade.

Wildlife comes right up to see you at Belle Bois. This young Lace Monitor was not interested in me, it was foraging for insects around the windows. Until it walked straight into the window trying to meet the 'other' Lace Monitor, pretended nothing had happened and wandered away through the garden.

Bird season is still upon us. In the Capertee Valley there are ironbarks flowering and the morning chorus is strong.

Nature is wonderful, and unpredictable. Two eagles rose out of the woodland, were lifted on the wind and soared. Circling together as the wind carried them East over the house. Magnificent. Everyday here there is something to catch your breath in wonder.

This is one of the longest running environmental projects in Australia. Supported by the Capertee Valley community, with land owners, like Belle Bois, providing their land for planting habitat to support the Regent Honeyeater and many other birds which are nectar feeders. Volunteer planters come from inside and outside the valley. This effort means guests at Belle Bois have had the rare privilege of seeing these lovely birds in the property’s woodland. Nearby Capertee National Park has also had sightings in recent years,
