🍓 HOMEMADE JAM EP LAUNCH SHOW #1
📍 Bonalbo Music Festival, 6th September
We probably should have known this day was going to be interesting when we had to make a car-sickness stop at the NSW border gates. That rarely happens, but it’s a pretty good indicator of a true family road trip. 😂
Then, as we arrived at the family farm at Haystack, our dog Pumba ran out from under the van and promptly got run over by a quad bike. 😳
Cue ten very traumatic minutes while we waited for the shock to wear off (him AND us) and kept a close eye on him to see whether our little bloke was actually OK.
Miraculously, he was. 🤎
Once he decided he was fine, Pumba proceeded to lap up all the love and attention he could get before we had to leave for soundcheck. (No damage done, as you can see from the photo with Banjo!)
The Bonalbo crowd was an attentive, listening crowd, so we took the opportunity to throw in a few new songs about the people and places around us.
The wind, however, lived up to local lore about September gales.
It was blowing hard enough that the chained dogs around town were in danger of being blown away, and the kids had a fabulous time chasing Hermit hats as they blew off the stage. We had to keep a firm grip on our instruments! 😂
Despite the wind, we had so much fun onstage and we couldn't have asked for a better crowd to launch the EP with. The crowd especially loved seeing Gran and Pap join us for the finale.
Huge thanks to Carl and his team, MC Andy McClean (who joined us onstage with his harp), Les Staff and Andrew Hegedus, who were quickly solving sound problems on the fly, and all the wonderful volunteers who helped make the inaugural Bonalbo Music Festival such a success.
