🔘 MAN DIES AFTER BOATING INCIDENT
- Posted: 2:15pm, Sunday 26 July

A man has died after a boating incident in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

About 10.30am today (Sunday 26 July 2026), emergency services responded to reports of a boat capsizing offshore from Bear Island at La Perouse.

Officers from the Marine Area Command have been informed that two men were fishing from a vessel when it was capsized by a wave ejecting the men into the water.

One of the men – aged 74 – was removed from the water by a jet ski operator and taken to shore where he was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and conveyed to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition.

The second man – who is yet to be formally identified - was airlifted out of the water by the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter unconscious and flown to a landing site on Anzac Parade, La Perouse. Paramedics performed CPR; however, he was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

It is believed the men were not wearing life jackets at the time.

The vessel sustained extensive damage and has broken up.

As inquiries continue police are urging anyone with information about the incident – or has any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – to contact Maroubra Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
