It’s the first day of December and do you know what that means? Time to decorate for Christmas!

we were raring to go, decorating in November for our guests who woke up on this first day of the festive season in holiday style.

We decided on a natural look this year. Can you see the leafy garlands in the kitchen? Or spot a touch of gold and stone in the dining area? Lastly we went for beautiful, silky tissue paper in the lounge room. We made floral bursts and arranged honeycomb, paper Christmas trees by The Shell House entry.

Then I immediately adorned myself in a glitzy, sequined Christmas dress and headed out for our first party of the year!

Are you already in the Christmas spirit or are you slow to start? Our family start Christmas anytime after September and we reluctantly take down our decorations sometime in February. That’s normal right?! 🙃🎄

People debate the benefits of a hotel vs Airbnb. Hotels are great! Who doesn’t love sauntering into a 5⭐️ stay as an anonymous guest wearing your shades? But Airbnbs are personal. You are more likely to have a unique experience in an Airbnb. Something that nobody else can recreate.

We stay in hotels and Airbnbs when we travel. I am more likely to book a boutique hotel or an Airbnb that I have been lusting over on socials. My personal insta page is full of colourful posts or white on white stories by designers, bespoke accommodation owners, fashion experts and artists. I love to imagine what the space looks like and then see the details in real life. Often the spaces look better than the photos. Also, photos cannot convey the FEELING of a space.

When Mal came to stay for her work, she kicked off her shoes and robed up. We gave her early check-in, which is something that we like to offer our guests if we can manage it. She made herself a creamy coffee from the .au machine using our fun, ceramic mugs from . That’s a chill holiday vibe, right there.

Do you have tickets to the and you need last minute accommodation? If so, you are in luck! We had a last minute cancellation for Saturday night in The Beach House.

The Beach House is our house that we are soft launching as we slowly renovate. She has 2 bedrooms (King and Queen) and 1 bathroom. Footsteps to the beach. 10 minutes ride to the concert! The local cafes are just down the road too so that you can enjoy your recovery breakfast.

Controversial opinion: We prefer no cushions on our beds!

Deleting cushions gives us an opportunity to colour block. See how the bed in The Shell House at is all one colour? This makes a huge impact statement for the bedroom.

The bed becomes a sleek, stylish focal point. The minimalism of the bed means that we can decorate the remainder of the room in a way that still exudes calmness and balance for our weary souls.

Plus there are less cushions to throw on the floor and less cushion covers to clean. Win win!

What do you think of our tumeric sheets from .threads ? We love the soft, buttery feel of linen sheets and tumeric is a colour that resonates with us because… sand. 🏖️

A touch of cane adds interest, texture and warmth to an otherwise minimalist space. We have incorporated cane into the chairs, light shades and handles in The Shell House.

Best of all is that tranquil feeling that white spaces and natural materials create when combined. Whenever we stay in The Shell House, we are reminded of how calming and relaxing the space makes us feel.
