Lodge Ionic Prudence UGLQ No 77

Pictured in this now quite old photo is a few great members of our lodge but specifically noted are 3rd and 4th from the left respectively - V Wor Bro Harry Cummings, and W Bro Ted Sutton both who have passed to the grand lodge above and both who had a large impact on the lodge.
Harry was a mason that all who knew him respected him as the example of the perfect Freemason. Harry lived by the lessons of masonry and from that was an example for others to follow.

Ted had difficulties with memorising the work and as such had struggled to progress through offices to attain his ultimate desire - to become a Worshipful Master.
Lodge Ionic Prudence rallied to assist him with his goal, and he affiliated to the lodge and with the assistance of the lodge was able to successfully become the master of the lodge.
He passed away unexpectedly shortly after at a relatively young age, so it’s wonderful that the lodge could help him the way that it did and this shows the true spirit behind the lodge and its members.
Ted often got the knocks of the meeting wrong and still to this day we remember Ted when someone gets them wrong - that Ted’s spirit is still with us

Born in 1834 was French sculptor and Freemason Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, best known for designing the Statue of Liberty.

The colossal figure, clothed in copper and neoclassical in style, resides on its own Liberty Island in New York Harbour, and was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States.

A global icon of freedom and hope, it even has its own emoji 🗽

This incredible photo by Albert Fernique shows Bartholdi’s masterpiece while still under construction in 1884.

Today’s social day was at the driving range followed by a couple of bro beers with live music and good company.
We all had a fantastic time and have started planning our next social activity

The Tyler's post is outside the door of the lodge.
He is symbolically armed with a drawn sword, in our insistence the sword was donated to the lodge and had previously been used in the Boer War.
We did a previous post with up close photos and more details of this special sword.

Tonight Lodge Ionic Prudence welcomed a new brother to the lodge on his initiation.
Any initiation into freemasonry is special, but tonight was even more special by our new brothers grandfather who had travelled internationally to attend the very proud moment of his grandsons first degree.
His grandfather is an avid historian who spoke passionately about Masonic history, and has tracked freemasonry in their family right back to 1733. All present were glad to have witnessed such a special evening.
Attending were a quite large number of visiting brothers including 3 senior wardens from other lodges (the senior warden is considered the master designate elect).
All who attended enjoyed a wonderful evening of freemasonry and fellowship
