Broken Hill school bus circa 1940s
This privately owned school bus was built by Nayram Colmer (b.1884) from a vehicle, make unknown, that was bought new & taken bush soon after as often occurred.
When it was later returned to town & taken to Nayram in Rowe St all the body parts were broken or hanging off it, the gears didn't work & no glass remained.
Nayram stripped the vehicle & decided to use a propeller, which he used to make & sell, to pull it along. A frame was made & it worked except, so the story goes, it had a habit of chopping the weeds & flinging them in your face!
So it was back to the drawing board for Nayram & a complete rebuild to the image here.
