It was amazing to work with Mogwai again last night (Saturday 23rd May), this time round at the prestigious Sydney Opera House, what an absolute pleasure, see you tomorrow night (Monday 25th May) at the Forum for their Melbourne show.

As a local Brunswick business, have been since we started, way back in 2014, we're saddened to hear the closure of one of our favourite local live music venues, Stay Gold, which just so happens to be one of the best live music venues in Australia.

Their closure will be be a major blow to live music in Melbourne, as very few other venues of this size primarily focuses on fast, hard and heavy music, and maintains the same level of high end professional quality.

Stay Gold is a first rate rock solid professional touring venue that's help raise the bar and set the standard of what a venue of this size should be.

Here's a new addition to Melbourne Backline's vast and extensive range of vintage style drums, and a new addition to our ever growing Gretsch collection.

What we have here are two absolutely beautiful Gretsch Brooklyn 4 piece kits, these were made in the DW Drums Los Angeles factory, when they still owned Gretsch, the shells are 6 ply Maple Poplar Maple and the wrap is called Smoke Grey Oyster.

Classic maple sizes:
22" x 14" kick, 13" x 9" rack tom, 16" x 16" floor tom

Downbeat maple sizes:
20" x 14" kick, 12" x 8" rack Tom, 14" x 14" floor tom

Snare: 14" x 5"

CREW NEEDED from early Feb!

Have you ever wanted to work in the "Music Industry" aka doing backline, do you want to get paid to work with musical instruments and audio equipment, get paid to work with bands, artists, and on Festivals and events?

Well then, look no further, as Melbourne Backline is looking for extra crew to join our team!

Starting in early February, Melbourne Backline is looking for additional crew with a passion for music and audio, the person in question has to have good presentation & communication, they'll need to have experience & knowledge with audio equipment and audio engineering (know how to set up smaller scale P.A's and can confidently do live sound with a digital desk), they'll also need to be able to play drums (know how to set up, pack, and tune drums), playing other instruments like guitar, bass or keys is also an advantage.

The position will be 4 - 5 days a week (Wednesday to Saturday, possible Sunday, depending on the right person), the hours will mostly be during the day, though some occasional nights will be required when collecting backline from shows and events.

With 2025 now behind us, and a New Year in our sights, we just want take the time to say a massive heart felt thanks to all the bands, musicians, venues, festival, promoters, artist managers, tour managers, techs, film and TV companies, etc, etc that took a chance and decided to work with us in 2025 (and all those years prior), we deeply appreciate it and are forever grateful.

As you may know we're a small musician run business for musicians, artist run for artists, so we appreciate all the support we can get, on any and every level.

Then there was that time we got to supply backline for Dweezil Zappa's February 2018 Australian tour.

This was a fun run of shows, Zappa, and his band and crew, were all very humble, courteous, and fantastic to work with.

Our buddy Marcus and his Melbourne based pedal Co "Sunhaus" have just released this fantastic fuzz pedal called the "BALLAM Dirt Fuzz", if you dig The Cramps and you're into the Germanium sounding fuzz pedals of the 60's, like the VOX Tone Bender, then this will be right up your alley. It's a fierce little unit that cuts through like a buzz saw.
