🌊 CAPE NATURALISTE GOES FULL BEAST MODE 🌊

If you were wondering whether this deep low pressure system means business... here's your answer.

At 7:48am, Cape Naturaliste is recording:

🔴 Swell: 9.18 metres
🟢 Sea State: 3.48 metres

To put that into perspective, a swell pushing over 9 metres is serious ocean energy. The actual waves breaking along exposed coastlines can be significantly larger depending on local conditions, reefs and coastal orientation.

With the low pressure system continuing to deepen and move towards the southwest, conditions along the coast are only expected to become more dangerous through today and tonight.

• Jetties and groynes
• Boat ramps
• Beach lookouts exposed to large waves

It only takes one rogue wave to ruin your day. Humans have an incredible ability to look at a 9-metre swell and think, "I reckon I'll just get a little closer for a photo."

Conditions are only going to get worse from here on in as the strong cold front crosses the coast and the deep low pressure system continues to intensify offshore and move past the south of the state this afternoon/evening.

The latest Marine Wind Warning from the Bureau of Meteorology has now upgraded several coastal waters to a STORM FORCE WIND WARNING.

The important thing to understand is that these winds are occurring BEFORE the worst of the weather arrives.

The cold front is still moving through and the deep low pressure system responsible for the most damaging winds isn't expected to move east until later today and tonight.

If you're sitting there typing "nothing happening here" or "it's calm at my place"... congratulations. It's 4am and the main event hasn't started yet. That's a bit like standing outside a cinema before the movie starts and declaring it was boring.

Stay weather aware today. This is shaping up to be one of the most significant wind events many parts of the South West Land Division have seen in years.
