📌Life in the Byron Shire is returning to normal, and Mayor Sarah Ndiaye wants to reassure visitors that it's still a wonderful time to visit.
“If you're thinking about coming to Byron, we’d love to have you! Our businesses across the Shire are open and ready to welcome you,” she said.
"Yes, we had a week of challenging weather and power outages, but we're grateful to be back on track and are excited to share our beautiful community with you."
“We’ve got the Australian-Pro Adaptive Surfing Championships on in Byron Bay this weekend for instance, lots of great music and shows happening in venues in Brunswick Heads, Mullumbimby, Bangalow, Federal and all around our Shire.
“I had a great swim at Byron Main Beach on the weekend followed by dinner in Byron on Saturday night and our restaurants were full and buzzing – there was a definite holiday vibe and the weather was perfect,” the Mayor said.
Weekly farmers markets are happening in Byron Bay and Mullumbimby as well as regular twilight markets and fashion flea markets. The Byron Bay Bluesfest is on in April, there’s the annual Billycart Derby in Bangalow… the list goes on.
NSW Surf Life Saving, with the assistance of local Surf Club Volunteers, monitor beach conditions for safety. If the flags are up, it is safe to swim.
"The beach access at Byron Bay’s Main Beach is open, despite some closures at other locations due to foreshore erosion.
“Council is responsible for these beach accesses, and we ask visitors and locals alike to respect signage there to avoid risk of injury and protect our dunes allowing time for them to recover," the Mayor said.
“At beaches along our coastline, it’s a matter of using common sense and following the signage to give the dune systems time to repair and the sand a chance to return,” she said.
