The Phalaenopsis or 'Moth Orchid' is the most common orchid due to its ease of care and availability of blooming plants year-round. Phals are easily grown in the home and stay in bloom for a very long time. A mature phal will be in bloom much of the year with graceful inflorescences loaded with good-sized blooms.

Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants from South East Asia which have specialised leaves known as pitfall traps - a prey-trapping mechanism featuring a deep cavity filled with digestive liquid. The rim of the pitcher (peristome) is slippery when moistened by condensation or nectar, causing attracted insects to fall into the trap!
