Australians for Animals received the following email today from the Conservation Regulator in response to the latest email sent by the charity seeking confirmation that charges have been laid.
This is the response.
Dear Sue,
Thank you for your email to the Conservation Regulator. As the matter is still currently under investigation, the Conservation Regulator is unable to disclose any information relating to the circumstances, including any charges. The public will be informed in due course once the investigation has concluded and any outcomes are finalised.
The Conservation Regulator is considering all appropriate legal avenues.
Kind regards,
Conservation Regulator team
We now have one of the MOST OUTRAGEOUS ACTS OF ANIMAL CRUELTY EFFECTIVELY IGNORED BY THE VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT.
The koala was tied with a rope around its neck, tied to the back of a ute and dragged down the main street of Koroit in full view of women, children, local business and dumped in a nearby park.
Suffering HORRIFIC injuries, the koala was taken to Mosswood Sanctuary where a volunteer vet euthanised the poor suffering terribly injured koala. This happened on MARCH 26.
Now almost two months later, no charges have been laid in spite of the fact the alleged perpetrator was arrested by the police and subsequently released as the Conservation Regulator TOOK OVER. The RSPCA Victoria recommended concerned people call the CR.
In the past two months, we know that statements have been taken, that the evidence of aggravated cruelty is clear, there are witnesses and NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE.
Australians for Animals (AFA) has written to every board member of the RSPCA Victoria. No responses. The charity has emailed the CR a number of times receiving the same response.
AFA is in the process of seeking a lawyer to prosecute this case but.. the options are legally difficult. Meantime, the alleged offender is free in his community. If a human had been treated this way, the charge would be murder.
In Jacinata Allan’s Victoria, the murder of a koala is treated as something to be ignored.
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO ? WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO DO ?
Social media is great for getting the word out but getting people to actually do something, besides signing a petition is very challenging.
Koala Crisis is in the process of emailing each MP in the Victorian Parliament Assembly and Council requesting immediate action.
It’s VITALLY IMPORTANT FOR VICTORIANS WHO ARE DISGUSTED OVER THIS APPALLING CRUELTY TAKE ACTION.

Please either find your local member and send an email asking what they are doing about this scandalous situation OR if you can, email every single MP in both houses.
Unless there’s significant protest coming from Victorians, NOTHING WILL CHANGE.
The Victorian Labor government will have set another precedent of shocking cruelty to wildlife safe in the knowledge that DELAY MEANS NO ACTION and a public that forgets.
No, don’t leave it to AFA and Koala Crisis. This is a call out to Victorians. ACT!
