All farmers complain about the weather.
At Chestnut Brae we also have challenges. Sweet Chestnuts need 600mm of winter rain a year; this is why the Nannup region is so good for growing chestnut trees. Every year we get between 800 and 1.2 m rain.it has never been a problem.
This year we are approaching the last two weeks of winter, and our rain gauge has recorded 469mm or rain. Well below our target.
This is a similar pattern across all farmland. This has been the driest winter since records began at the farm. How will this affect our harvest? We are ot sure at this stage in the season.
We can hope for a wet start to spring.
This is another example of climate change and how it effects what we grow.
