Myponga Reservoir, Nestled near the township of Myponga on the stunning Fleurieu Peninsula about an hour’s drive south of Adelaide, is a beautiful destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Activities at Myponga Reservoir Reserve
Walking and Hiking
The reserve offers a network of trails suitable for various fitness levels:
• Spinebill Loop: 0.7 km, approximately 15 minutes
• Heron Loop: 2.3 km, approximately 30 minutes
• Lapwing Loop: 4.5 km, approximately 1 hour
• Kestrel Loop: 8.7 km, approximately 1.8 hours
These trails meander through open plains, forested areas, and native vegetation, offering opportunities for walking, running, and cycling .
Cycling
Cyclists can enjoy the shared-use unsealed trails, with options suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. The south-eastern side offers easier paths, while the western trails provide more challenging terrain .
Kayaking and Canoeing
Paddlers can explore the 250 hectares of water, with an 8 km return trail taking approximately 3–4 hours.
Picnicking and Wildlife Watching
Several picnic areas are available along the trails, providing scenic spots to relax. The reserve is home to over 120 bird species, lizards, and frogs, making it ideal for wildlife observation .
Facilities and Access
• Opening Hours: 7:30 am – 5:00 pm (standard time), 7:30 am – 8:00 pm (daylight saving time).
• Closed: On Total Fire Ban Days and for operational activities.
• Amenities: Free car parking and toilet facilities are available.
• Restrictions: Dogs (except assistance animals) are not permitted to protect water quality and wildlife .
