New guests review:

A Indonesian-style retreat about a 15 minute drive from Port Douglas with beautiful rainforest and coastal views from the communal dining room/terrace and pool (both areas are small but lovely to hang out at). We both preferred to stay out of PD and visit it rather than the other way around! Andre is a fantastic host, always on hand to help or provide advice on local activities and dining options (limited locally but there is a great Thai in Mossman at which you can dine in or takeaway and eat on the terrace at this property - Andre will provide plates and cutlery). Large bed with a beautiful canopy and a delicious fresh-fruit, yoghurt, and croissant/toast breakfast each morning. The steep drive way may surprise you when you first arrive but continue up for the fantastic views! Mossman Gorge, PD's crocodile viewing bridge and the Cape Tribulation drive are all must dos from Mai Tai.

An unforgettable stay in the rainforest 🌿

Our stay with André was truly special. We were immediately captivated by the accommodation, nestled in the heart of the rainforest and surrounded by beautiful nature and tranquility.

André is an incredibly warm and attentive host. The lovingly prepared, special breakfasts were a particular highlight—a little surprise every morning and a wonderful way to start the day. ☕️🥭🍍

Meeting the other guests also enriched our stay. The atmosphere was open, friendly, and relaxed, so we quickly felt like we were among friends.

Totally loved this from the time we drove up to the entrance. Andrè was there to greet us and show us around his beautiful resort. We walked through a gorgeous Balinese double door which took us to our hibiscus room. Stunning! Balinese theme throughout but not overdone. There is a private courtyard to sit and contemplate. The shower has a large window so you can open it and feels like your showering outdoors. I understand there are also some rooms with outdoor showers.
Andrè provided us with his local knowledge which led us to Shannonvale Tropical fruit winery which was about 10mins away. We did a tasting in lovely surroundings and took some lovely wine back with us. Andrè also suggested the Australian Chocolate Farm, which is also 5 - 10mins away. We decided on the tour with tastings after. Jenny, one of the owners (her husband was busy making yummy chocolate), took us around the plantation and gave a history. The tour was very informative and the history of their starting the plantation from scratch was amazing 👏. They went through so much but came out on top ! Getting back to The MAI TAI, there was also plenty of information in our room for tours etc and Andrè gave a few more ideas. MAI TAI - FANTASTIC place to stay and it has a lovely pool. The breakfast was healthy and plenty of it - from fruit, yoghurt, croissants, fruit bread and various other breads as well as various cereals and toppings and plunger coffee. The highlight - so many but the best was Andrè 👍🏼😊👏. He was there to greet us every night when we came back, asked how our evening was and then we went to our room. A very long post but didn't want to miss anything.

We had 3 nights here, with a gorgeous view overlooking the rainforest and sugarcane fields. Wonderful, restful stay. Wished it could have been longer.

RoomsLarge, cozy bed with a canopy. Comfy asian style couch. The outdoor area — including the outdoor shower area — was spacious, clean, and private.
Nearby activitiesWe booked a Daintree bus tour and got picked up at the resort. We drove to. Fruit winery, chocolate farm, and frequented the beach and shops in Port Douglas.
SafetyNo safety concerns. Rooms were secure and Andre is one of the kindest people we met. He has 2 dogs and a cat, but he kept them indoors until he could ask if we were okay with animals before introducing us.
WalkabilityYou need a car to get around. There are spots for a car for each room, so parking was not a problem.
Food and drinksBreakfast was consistent and good — fruit, cereal, toast and jam, croissants, and coffee. The room came stocked with some goodies for purchase, and a mini fridge. Andre also had great suggestions for takeaway.
Noteworthy detailsWe needed a needle and thread to repair a button, and Andre immediately located one for us.
