New guests review:
Holiday ❘ Solo
Mai Tai is a stunning labour of love and so well thought out. As a solo girl traveling for the first time, reviews I had read about this retreat turned out to be true. Andre went above and beyond - as he does for his guests and his guidance is immaculate. He curated how I could visit the Daintree and Great Barrier reef and organized my tours for me even before I reached there. He even came to pick me up and drop me off from the airport - which was incredibly thoughtful as I wasn’t able to organize a car last minute. Mai Tai offers you a private window into Daintree’s wonders with the Australian Green Tree Frog, Olive Backed Sunbird and some spectacular orchids making home there. An art lover’s paradise, the property is curated with several pieces reflecting Balinese architecture and is rich in its forest heritage. You have total privacy, even though the rooms are close to one another, I could not hear anything the entire time. The jewel in the crown are Mai Tai’s two dogs, who are ambassadors of their hospitality and lovingly wait for you to play endless rounds of fetch with them, and a cat (whose attention you’re going to have to work harder to get!). I honestly don’t think you could replicate the joy, rest and beauty that Mai Tai will add to your trip, it feels like home and changes your experience and understanding of Port Douglas.

RoomsThe rooms are beautifully appointed and super comfortable, with individual sit out places, well air conditioned, with a thoughtful mini bar stacked on your arrival which can hold other groceries. There is WIFI that works well.
Nearby activitiesMai Tai is quite centrally located, it took me 10 minutes via car to reach the local shopping centre, where there are several excellent dining options. And about 30 minutes to the pier to head off from there to the Great Barrier Reef. The drive from Cairns Airport is about 1.5 hours.
SafetyThe owner stays on the property in the same building with guests, there is no additional security there but it is quite safe.
WalkabilityYou 100% need a car to move around. For hikes and local walks, there are plenty of options.
Food and drinksThe property is pristine and Andre will guide you for recommendations for dinner and lunch along with options to do your own meals, a yummy continental breakfast (there’s nothing quite like excellent coffee, rainforest fruits and a croissant fresh from the oven in the morning!). Andre is gracious to give you access to his kitchen if you need to heat your meals or wash a plate.
