We remember and honour the life of Dame Marie Bashir, as she passed away age 95. An extraordinary woman whose legacy has left a lasting mark on New South Wales.

Dame Marie Bashir made history as the first female Governor of New South Wales, serving with distinction for 14 years. Her leadership, compassion and dedication to community, education and service will be remembered with deep respect.

Castlereagh was privileged to welcome Dame Marie on two special occasions:
•In 2006, she visited for the official opening of our Gloster Udy Hall
•In 2010, she returned to plant a commemorative tree, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Five Macquarie Towns — a living reminder of history, faith and community

We are grateful for her connection to Castlereagh and the moments she shared with our site and community.
