Australian and Chinese joint effort to cross the two great deserts of China and Australia to raise awareness of global decertification and celebrate 40 years of Sino-Australian relations. The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, an organization within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chinese Central Government, will be hosting the intercontinental Australia-China D
esert Adventure this year to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Australia and China. The Desert Adventure is an innovative approach to promote cultural communication by integrating environmental protection, scientific research, expedition and friendship between the two nations. An expedition group of 40 members chosen from the world is to take on one of the world's largest inland desert clusters – the Australian inland desert cluster in August and the Chinese Kumukuli Desert in September, the world’s highest desert in altitude. The effort and the research results of the expedition team will be recognised in the “Australia-China Desert Adventure Forum” in December. This forum will also serve as a communication platform for experts and leaders from the two nations to discuss prevention and solution to desertification. Driven by a year-round, high profile media campaign, the event aims to raise global awareness of much-needed environmental protection. Hosts
