Acacia Motel

Acacia Motel Australian highest score - Booking.com! Multi award-winner, fathers themed legacy celebrates his four kids. Each room is unique, inspirational and inviting.

Guests rave about cloud-soft beds, unbeatable value & our free social arcade. Welcome to the More than a bed Experience where you come first! More than a bed...

The Four Children Family Trust and Four Children Property Trust acquired the Acacia Motel in beautiful Chinchilla in 2023. Devoted father of four children, Justin Herringe, embarked on a complete reimagining of the motel to make it unique

ly different. Drawing inspiration from the love he has four his children, Justin developed an ambitious plan never seen before in the Australian Motel industry. The concept plan was to transform this 1960s old style, basic country motel into more than a motel, more than a bed, but an immersive, unforgettable experience. Each room would be themed around attributes he admires about his children, or memories and special times he spent with his children during their childhood. A unique air-conditioned social games room with coffee station, Big Screen TV, retro arcade games and more would become an extension of your private room lodging. The Social games room unlike other motels, hotels or resorts would be inclusive in the cost of your daily room charge. Justin's vision is for all who come to the Acacia Motel to have an unforgettable time in rooms that embrace colour, fun, nostalgia, and have been designed for the modern traveller. New luxury bedding, quilted pillow protectors, pillows, towels and blankets to provide you the best in comfort. Top requested rooms include Isaac's recording studio, Lainley's Art Studio, Isabella's Library, Linda's Farm House and Sara Marie's Country Music Legends. Our Family room has been a huge hit. Come and see why the Acacia Motel is more than just a bed. It's a father's gift to his beautiful children and an immersive experience you're invited to be part of.

Chinchilla's First Workstay Initiative Recipient β€” Dorney's Cafe! πŸŽ‰

We are SO proud to announce the first local business gifted through our Workstay Initiative Program is the incredible Dorney's Cafe!

The Workstay Program is a private community initiative by the Acacia Motel β€” our way of visually Supporting Local every time a worker stays with us. Simple but powerful. We commit $2 per worker per night into the box and gift it to a local business at month's end.

This month the box held $199. I personally threw in an extra $100 and the legendary Roger, Manager at Drakes, added a $50 Drakes Gift Card β€” because that's the Drakes way. Supporting local, always.

Total gifted to Courtney at Dorney's β€” $299 cash plus a $50 Drakes Card. That fills our hearts completely!

Now why Dorney's? Two big reasons.
Beautiful Courtney, Penny and the team are champions for young teens entering the workforce. First jobs build self-esteem, social skills, confidence and pride. Courtney and Penny are exactly the kind of warm, genuine mentors every young person deserves starting out.

The other reason? Courtney greets every single patron with the most sincere, beautiful smile. Oh and the coffee is absolutely brilliant β€” and for those who know me, great coffee is non-negotiable! β˜•

A huge heartfelt thank you to all our regular work guests and their companies who choose to stay with us and in doing so help support other local Chinchilla businesses. You make this possible.

(We do note disappointment that large companies including Arrow, Qube and QGC continue to favour camp accommodation for long term workstays locking local motels out β€” submissions have been prepared for State and Federal bodies regarding anticompetitive market behaviour. We remain hopeful.)

Chinchilla loves you all! πŸ’›

Sunday Morning Travels in Chinchilla with the Doctor! β˜€οΈ

Right! Listen up, because I've landed the TARDIS in Chinchilla, Queensland, and β€” oh, this place is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I've seen fourteen civilisations rise and fall before breakfast, and I'm telling you, Sunday mornings here are something special. Don't you dare just drive off. Not yet.

1. 🌊 Chinchilla Weir β€” your morning zen moment
Grab your thermos β€” yes, the thermos, don't argue with me β€” and drive out to the Chinchilla Weir. Fresh air. Water. Coffee. I once watched two galaxies collide and honestly? This gives it a run for its money. Trust the Doctor.

2. 🌿 Charley's Creek Walkway β€” a hidden gem right in town
Park near the Car Wash, find the steps beside the bridge and just go. Wander! Explore! That's what feet are for β€” I should know, I'm very fond of mine. Charley's Creek Walkway is gorgeous and your companions will love you for it.

3. β˜• Shenanigans Coffee Shop β€” because coffee first. Always. Non-negotiable.

Oh don't give me that look. Coffee first. Shenanigans. Local favourite. Proper hot coffee, incredible breakfast options. Get a takeaway and walk to the Botanic Parklands. That's not a suggestion, that's a prescription from a Doctor. Eleven hundred years old. I know things.

4. πŸ›οΈ Chinchilla Museum β€” opens 9am, few dollars, absolutely worth it

History! Real history! I was there for most of it and I still love a good museum. The story of this region is rich and fascinating β€” a few dollars is practically nothing. What else were you going to spend it on? Go. Learn. Be amazed. Geronimo.

5. 🍳 Charley's Creek CafΓ© β€” for the hungry, the bold, and the ravenous

A mega breakfast? Yes. Obviously yes. Warrego Highway heading West, over Charley's Creek, 100m on your right. Arrive hungry. Leave heroic.

6. πŸ“Έ Three photo stops β€” and one of them involves me.
Chinchilla has an almost suspicious amount of photogenic brilliance. In a good way.

The Big Silos β€” Warrego Highway toward Dalby, on your left. Dramatic. Vertical. Magnificent. Your Instagram doesn't deserve it but give it to them anyway.

The Big Watermelon β€” middle of town, Warrego Highway. It EXISTS. It's ENORMOUS. Stop. Snap. Marvel at the audacity of it.

The Chinchilla TARDIS Photostand β€” 96 Glasson Street. My TARDIS. Well. A tribute. I'm choosing to be flattered. And β€” oh, this is the good bit β€” pop into Reception at the Acacia Motel and they will actually dress you up in full Doctor Who costume. Props included. For FREE. I have authorised this personally. Probably. πŸš€

Sunday mornings here? As laid-back or as extraordinary as you choose to make them. Either way β€” Chinchilla delivers.

Now off you go. The universe is out there and it won't explore itself.
Well. Actually it might. But you should do it anyway.

Adjusts bowtie.

Bowties are cool. πŸ’›

🎑✨ THE 2026 SHOW EDITION IS HERE AND CHINCHILLA IS ABSOLUTELY STEALING THE SHOW! ✨🎑

The Western Downs Town and Country Newspaper 2026 Show Edition has officially dropped β€” and oh my goodness, what a ride it's been! This was Linda and my 4th Annual Show visit and hands down, without a single shadow of a doubt, the BEST one yet!

From jaw-dropping displays to thrilling rides and events that had us grinning ear to ear β€” this show had it ALL! πŸ™Œ The incredibly talented students from St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Chinchilla, Chinchilla State School and Chinchilla Christian College absolutely blew us away with their stunning artwork. Like, seriously gifted kids right there! 🎨

And the FOOD! Oh, the food! 😍 The flower section? Gorgeous. The fudge? Someone stop us! The gin? Yummo doesn't even begin to cover it! 🌸🍬🍸 From Football Faves stands to Country and Western gear, loaded potatoes to those absolutely mouth-watering lamb wrappy things β€” our taste buds have officially never been happier!

But here's the thing β€” and we say this having attended shows up and down the East Coast for years β€” the Chinchilla Show beats them ALL. πŸ† The ability to remember where you parked the car, Incredible atmosphere without the chaos, food van wait times that won't steal your whole afternoon, easy on the wallet entry prices, and just the perfect amount of everything. It's the Goldilocks of Shows, people!

Now… we have ONE teeny, tiny, itsy-bitsy little request. πŸ“πŸ‘‡
To the amazing Show Organisers β€” you legends who have truly nailed everything else β€” could you PRETTY PLEASE look into sourcing a supplier for those iconic Strawberry Ice Cream cones with a fresh strawberry on top?! You know the ones. Anyone who's ever been to the Brisbane Ekka (especially our fellow carb-loving friends πŸ™‹) knows EXACTLY what we're talking about. Every single bite is pure, cold, strawberry-topped HEAVEN. πŸ˜‡

Consider it the one glorious cherry β€” or should we say strawberry πŸ“ β€” on top of an already absolutely brilliant show! See you there next year! πŸŽ πŸŽ‰

πŸ’š SMALL TOWN. BIG HEART. REAL CHANGE. πŸ’š

Here at the Acacia Motel we believe every stay should give back to the town that supports us and that's exactly what our Workstay Gift Box does.

🎁 For every worker. For every night. We drop $2 in the box.
At the end of each month the whole lot gets gifted to a local Chinchilla business that deserves a boost.

It's not about the amount. It's about the message πŸ‘‡
➑️ Large companies operating in Chinchilla it's time to step up, support local motel bookings and ditch the internal policies that shut small-town businesses out. It's not just unlawful. It's completely disrespectful to an entire town of hard working Mums and Dads. 😀

We're still hopeful Shell QGC will get on board with a policy change and open their reservation system Uplift for long term stays for motels wanting to be competitive. The Shell QGC Uplift system determines accommodation direction for QGC employees, other energy copmpany workers and contractors and sub contractors. The policy of 5 nights or more at Camp accommodation is preventing lawful market competition and must change.

As for our regular workers, they have loved and supported this community initiative 100% since day one. πŸ™Œ

🌟 THIS MORNING'S HIGHLIGHT 🌟
A regular workstay wanting to remain anonymous checked out this morning and slipped us $25 to keep the cause going. Honestly it meant the world. That's real community love right there. πŸ₯ΉπŸ’š

Thank you Anonymous. You are exactly what community spirit looks like. πŸ’›

Camps Mostly Full. Town down by 35-45% That's Not Support.

When Chinchilla flooded, we opened our doors. No questions asked.

That's what supporting local looks like β€” showing up, lifting up, and keeping the town's heartbeat strong. Every day we direct guests to local restaurants, shops and businesses. Every dollar spent here protects a local job.

To local motels, incoming Workers are locals too. For us, every work team that's stayed with us since 2023 has been treated like family β€” looked after, respected, cared for. And nothing stings more when regulars say on their next roster they must go to Camp despite us offering a better price.

In recent weeks, the crews from Downer and CS Energy needed a place for the Kogan shutdown. Downer and CS Energy offered them flexibility and freedom of choice by way of an accommodation allowance. And that's called leadership and respect for everyone. And Chinchilla thanks you. The Acacia Motels response for your workers was not to take advantage but to offer the lowest possible pricing so their allowance stretched further β€” covering meals out, groceries at local supermarkets and a little extra for the families waiting back home.

That's what respect looks like.

So why is Shell QGC quietly working against it?
Their Uplift reservation system β€” used by QGC employees, contractors, subcontractors and companies like Qube Energy β€” caps motel bookings at 4 nights or less. Rosters shift longer. Camps fill up. Motels sit empty. Chinchilla loses.

Shell QGC's own response says it clearly:

"To support our commitment to local businesses, ad hoc stays under four nights in the Western Downs are able to be booked in local motels."

They admit it. Motel stays support local business. But they've quietly engineered a system that prevents them.

This isn't just bad policy. It's illegal.

Under ACCC Section 45 of the Competition and Consumer Act, a corporation must not make or give effect to an arrangement that has the purpose or effect of substantially lessening competition.

Motels have every legal right to offer competitive pricing and attract longer work stays. Shell's reservation system shuts that door entirely β€” regardless of price, quality or availability.

When a company with that much market power tells a small motel operator "if this arrangement no longer suits you, we'll remove you from our system" β€” that's not a negotiation. That's a warning dressed up as an exit.

We're calling on the Chinchilla Community Commerce and Industry Inc - CCCI and Western Downs Regional Council to stand up β€” not with a shrug, but with strength. Also since ACCC Anticompetitive legislation runs alongside operates alongside state-specific legislation like the Fair Trading Act 1989 (Qld) to regulate fair competition and ban illegal business practices, we again invite Bryson Head MP to step up and defend the rights of accommodation providers. This town deserves informed advocates that defend legislation.

Here's the truth β€” said with hope, not anger.

A reservation system capped at 4 nights isn't supporting local business. It's quietly draining it. Every long roster that fills a camp instead of a motel room is money Chinchilla sees very little of.

We believe Shell QGC and their partners can and should do better.

Not because we're angry β€” but because this town is absolutely worth fighting for.

In close, we recognise Stayover and Base Camp is an essential quality service for housing such volume of Workers, but if the shoe was on the other foot, you would be standing up for fairness also. And rightly so.

The door is always open. Come stay like a local. 🏑

β˜€οΈ SLOW DOWN. SIP UP. YOU'VE EARNED IT. β˜€οΈ

A little morning downtime can change everything β€” and Chinchilla makes it easy.

We all need to hit pause sometimes. Even just one hour of genuine, phone-face-down, no-scroll, no-notifications you time can reset your whole day. Here's how we love to do mornings in Chinchilla:

πŸ“° Step 1 β€” Grab something to read
Pop into the Chinchilla Newsagency and pick up a magazine or the morning paper. Disconnect from the scroll and reconnect with the real world. The wonderful team there will happily point you in the right direction β€” they're as warm as the morning sun.

β˜• Step 2 β€” Find your spot
Whether it's Shenanigans Cafe or Dorney’s Cake Shop, you'll find a beautiful coffee, a delicious breakfast and that genuine country warmth that makes you want to linger just a little longer. Solo mornings here? Pure bliss.

πŸ“΅ Step 3 β€” Phone on silent. Face down. Non-negotiable.
One hour. Just you. Because you are absolutely worth it.

πŸ’₯ MILLIONS LOST IN CHINCHILLA:

Why is corporate policy bypassing our town's top-rated motel? πŸ’₯

Five months on the Shell QGC Uplift platform and zero QGC worker bookings. A spatter of other companies through their reservation program but not one QGC worker. It is disheartening to watch corporate frameworks remove local motel's lawful rights, push long-term stays exclusively to major camps and bypass agreements by renting out local residential houses.

Despite our continuous efforts to advocate for a fair Workstay approach, meaningful dialogue has been nonexistent. Estimates show local motel revenue and leasehold values have dropped by millions this year alone.

We have to ask the big companies operating in our backyard: what does your logo stand for if not the preservation of the local economy?

🚨 UPDATE: REGULATORY & MEDIA INVOLVEMENT THIS WEEK

Enough is enough. We have prepared formal submissions to Federal and State Government agencies for immediate investigations. Furthermore, we are rolling out media involvement this week to shine a bright spotlight on the lack of professional integrity from these corporate giants.

🌟 THE ACACIA MOTEL STANDS FIRM

The Acacia Motel stands proud and resolute in supporting our fellow local motels and businesses. We are incredibly grateful for our independent guests who keep us rated as the absolute best in the country.
