We're not sure who decided winter was the season to stay inside.

Here at Wesley Dale, the Great Western Tiers are often at their best, the paddocks are impossibly green, the air is crisp, the night sky is alive, and there is always a crackling fire waiting inside at the Coach House.

Not a bad way to spend a weekend, if you ask us.

Sometimes it’s the unscripted moments you remember most… A squeeze of the hand at just the right moment, a runaway veil… or a few muddy paws on a white wedding dress 🐕😍

An exciting week on the farm at Wesley Dale Tasmania as we come to the end of joining – the four-week period where the rams are in with the ewes 🐑🤍🐑. It marks the beginning of a new cycle and in around 18 weeks’ time, we’ll see lambs on the ground.

At Wesley Dale, we breed for strong maternal traits – ewes that are fertile, give birth easily, and care well for their young.

It’s been a strong, wet autumn, with plenty of rain and good growing conditions, allowing us to join a little earlier than usual this year – a small but meaningful shift in our farming calendar, so there will be lambs on the ground at the beginning of September.

As we edge closer to winter, we are slowing things down on the feed front too, allowing the grass to grow ahead and set us up well for the colder months.

While we’re already looking forward to lambing, the team is also welcoming a gentle shift in pace for the winter months ahead.

If you’d like a taste of winter on the farm – or to meet the lambs in spring – we have availability at the Coach House over the coming months. All stays include a farm tour of course. Bookings via the link in our bio.

In a world where everything is at our fingertips, on demand, it can be easy to forget where our food comes from – and especially for children, how it even comes about.

In 2016 Stephanie Alexander surveyed 1000 primary school children and found that 25% didn’t know where butter comes from. Hopefully things have shifted a little since then!

At Wesley Dale, even in a small way, we love being able to reconnect people with that.

Collecting eggs, picking from the garden, and hearing a little about how our farm works – every stay at the Coach House includes a farm walk with someone from our family.

A simple way to slow down, and share a small part of the story behind the food we eat.

Yesterday was pretty special - a gathering of women in at .tasmania – from those just starting out, to those who’ve given 50+ years to the industry and helped pave the path for others.

The numbers tell us that women are underrepresented in agriculture, but you wouldn’t have known it yesterday. Strong, generous, innovative, supportive and connected – what a community to be part of.
