Have you ever noticed the beautiful camellia tree at the front of Gabby's Cottage on Rose Farm?
This tree has been a part of the garden for more than 78 years. Known as ‘Thompsonii Rosea’, it was originally planted by Mrs Sowerby in a humble milk drum in 1953 before later being transplanted into the garden where it stands today.
It's believed the tree thrived thanks to a simple daily ritual. Each day, Mr and Mrs Sowerby would empty their used tea leaves around its base.
Whether it was the care, the tea leaves, or a little country magic, the camellia flourished and has become a treasured feature of the cottage garden.
Today, this magnificent tree is in full bloom and continues to welcome guests to Gabby's Cottage, standing as a living reminder of the generations who have called Rose Farm home ❤️🌸
