Signature Hotel

Signature Hotel New Hotel being established on the Pacific Highway in Coffs Harbour.

Finally after false starts with Council delaying it's defence and then stumbling on its suggestion of mediation, we have a Land & Environment Court hearing date.

The Court dates are 10 & 11 September here in Coffs Harbour.

We're just doing our bit for local tourism, facilitating a visit by a select group of lawyers, barristers, specialist experts and the court's Commissioner and staff. Sadly they won't be staying at the Signature Hotel on this occasion, but I'm sure some local accommodation and restaurant owners will be appreciative.

Thanks to everyone for your support! Not a day goes by that we don't get stopped in the street with people asking "what's going on" or "why did the mayor backflip?". We don't need to respond, everyone's clued in on who runs the town and who benefits.

The feedback on the new plans from guests staying in the motel has also been tremendous. It's surprised me how many people passing through Coffs comment that it needs improvement and are keen to see something new.

Let's hope September is a watershed month for change in Coffs and we can give some hope to other down trodden property owners.

Keep you posted. Chris

We received notice from "Signature's" solicitors that Council is referring the conflict/code of conduct complaint against Cr Palmer to an independent reviewer for assessment.

We had contended that Cr Palmer has a longstanding conflict with our group principals and their businesses dating back to 1998 and that influenced his vote as a Councillor and hence he should have recused himself from voting.

If the assessment concludes Cr Palmer was in the wrong it draws into question the validity of the Rescission Motion.

Interestingly, had Council's GM or Mayor forced Cr Palmer to step out of the Rescission Motion vote, the dissenting Councillor's would not have had the numbers to win, even with the Mayor changing sides. The Rescission Motion would have been defeated 4 to 3 and Council could have saved the ratepayers $300K +.

Given Council had 2 options of ruling on Cr Palmer's situation internally but rather chose to send it to the reviewer, suggests a level of seriousness. Possibly they should have considered the gravity of the complaint before the Rescission Motion???

We understand the Mayor was pressured to flip and cast her vote for the rescission motion. But we doubt she appreciated that the community is fed up with agenda's and want to see investment, progress and new jobs. The days of using rate payer's hard earned money as a personal slush fund needs to stop.
