TO BOOK CAMPING OR CABIN HIRE, phone the EcoPark on (07) 5494 4550, or visit www.crystalwaters.org.au Established in 1987 as the world’s first permaculture village, Crystal Waters received the 1996 World Habitat Award for its pioneering work in demonstrating new ways of sustainable living. It is set in 640 acres of bushland at the headwaters of the Mary River, and managed by the Body Corporate. Th
e community shares a common agreement of respect for the land, wildlife, and each other. Crystal Waters was designed using permaculture principles and is classified as 'Land for Wildlife,' serving as an Australian Wildlife Sanctuary. Our 'No Cats & Dogs' policy has fostered a peaceful living environment, allowing for a wide variety of local flora and fauna to thrive. The Crystal Waters Community Cooperative (‘the Co-op’) is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation that exists to further the social, educational and entrepreneurial activities of the village, and oversees our public-facing areas: the Village Green, the Deck, the EcoCentre, market garden areas, and the EcoPark Accommodations and Camping Area. The village regularly hosts events such as Monthly Markets, Music Nights, the Permaculture Design Course and other courses at the Co-op facilities on the Village Green and the Deck. Activities offered to residents and visitors include music, yoga, classes, martial arts, weeding & bush regeneration, and painting & crafts. The Ikigai Café is open from Thurs to Mon (closed Tues and Wed), the famous Sourdough Bakery is open Saturday mornings, and Baba Bistro serves meals with live entertainment every Friday night on the Deck. Visitors can stay at the Co-op’s EcoPark Accommodations and Camping Area, which offers camping, bunkhouse, and cabin options. You’ll also find private accommodation options on Airbnb and the WWOOFing and Workaway websites. TOURS: To appreciate what Crystal Waters has to offer, day visitors are recommended to take a guided tour as residential areas are restricted from public access.
