New management measures for black jewfish in Queensland. šŸŸ

A number of regulation changes have been introduced to support the long-term sustainability of Queenslandā€™s iconic black jewfish fishery.

These include:

šŸŽ£ Increasing the recreational possession limit from 1 to 2 black jewfish per person, and the boat limit from 2 to 4 on the east coast.

šŸ“… Introducing an annual east coast spawning closure from 1 November to 31 January.

āš“ Allowing commercial fishers to trunk black jewfish at sea, alongside a new minimum size limit for trunked fish.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the recent public consultation on black jewfish. Your feedback was carefully considered by fisheries managers and working group members, alongside findings from the 2021 east coast black jewfish stock assessment.
