Learning to shape surfboards has changed my life. I’m still very early on and I feel like my mind is going to blow up every time I get new information, but it has me absolutely hooked. I used to think that there were just a handful of things to think about when choosing a new board and colour was at the top of my list 🤷‍♀️ Now I’m starting to understand that length, width and thickness are only a part of the whole. I can customise everything and there are around 65 moving parts that I can tweak. After watching my partner Steve learn to surf over Covid on a big 10ft log, I crafted him something to help him get to the next level. We took it surfing last week and I was blown away watching all of my theories about what to shape for him come together. Concaves in the right places, rails with the right amount of softness, a tail that lets the water hold the board in while he gets up to the nose and more. In one surf he was turning, moving his feet and having an all round awesome time. I can’t wait to see how this next board in the picture works out - after enjoying the rides of the longer easier to paddle longboards, it will be fun to combine my childhood love of shortboards with this older wiser girl 😎
