LOOPINLEGENDS — WEEKLY WRAP UP 🧭
Dates: Tuesday, 12 May – Thursday, 22 May 2026
This week has definitely been one for the memory books 😄
We started by leaving Roma and heading further inland towards Charleville, with a stop through Mitchell and the hot springs along the way.
From there we made our way into Carnarvon Gorge, and wow… that place really delivered.
Originally we only planned a short stay at Sandstone Park, but quickly extended it after falling in love with the area. We tackled the walk to the Amphitheatre and Moss Garden, clocking up over 21,000 steps in one day, which nearly finished me off 😂 but the scenery was absolutely worth it.
There were also quiet rest days at camp, chilly nights, stargazing sessions, and a lot of appreciation for warm clothes and comfy camp chairs.
Then came Music in the Mulga… and things got a little muddy 😄
What started as a four-night stay became five after heavy rain completely washed out the grounds. We stayed an extra night hoping things would dry out enough to leave… but even then we still managed to get bogged. Along with plenty of other vans and motorhomes.
Thankfully the local council came to the rescue with tractors, graders and plenty of patience.
We eventually escaped the mud, although not before coating absolutely everything we owned in red dirt.
Despite all that, the festival itself was fantastic:
✔ Campfires
✔ Sing-alongs
✔ New bands discovered
✔ Really enjoying Adam and Brooke
✔ Homemade spaghetti bolognese and pies at camp
✔ Lots of laughs with fellow travellers
Then we rolled into Cunnamulla, where life slowed down again.
The tourist park turned out to be a perfect little reset stop after the mud chaos:
✔ Hot springs
✔ Great bakery
✔ Awesome pub meals by the fireplace
✔ Long hot showers
✔ Mountains of washing
✔ Finally getting semi-clean again 😄
And then came one of those unexpected little gems… Burren Junction.
We only planned one night there, but quickly changed that to two after discovering how good the bore baths were. Perfect temperature, lovely atmosphere, lots of campers around without being overcrowded, and really friendly people.
Some nights have just been about sitting outside under the moon and stars with a drink in hand, chatting to fellow travellers while Ian disappears inside to watch Hollywood YouTube 😄
No huge plans.
No strict itinerary.
Just rolling with whatever the road brings.
So this week has included:
✔ Carnarvon Gorge adventures
✔ 21,000-step hiking effort
✔ Stargazing nights
✔ Music in the Mulga festival fun
✔ Boggings… plural 😂
✔ Tractors and graders to the rescue
✔ Red dirt everywhere
✔ Campfires and sing-alongs
✔ Hot springs and bore baths
✔ Country pubs and bakery lunches
✔ New friendships and great conversations
✔ Slowing down and enjoying the road
Honestly… it’s been messy, muddy, exhausting, funny, social, peaceful and pretty wonderful all at once.
Exactly the kind of stories we’ll laugh about later 🧭
