Resident Bush Turkey in my garden. One baby has emerged to date that I’ve seen. Edit: 5 babies!

Our seasonal flock of yellow tail black cockatoos are gradually moving on after a coupe, of months foraging on the coast with their newly fledged chicks. The flock is hanging in at about fifty but coastal development will be putting pressure on new recruits.

Sadly the Buff Banded Rail that was a regular in
my garden has not appeared for months now. I fear the worst. The area has become more populated and loads of cats roam at night. When I moved here more than ten years ago bandicoots roamed the quiet streets at night. Not any more. They are all gone now.

Bird watching, a lifestyle

I would like to share a very special part of Australia with fellow bird and nature lovers. Halfway between Sydney and Brisbane and 40km north of Coffs Harbour is an area is blessed by some of the last remaining tracts of coastal heath and littoral rainforest. Superb isolated beaches, a world class intermittent coastal lake, lagoons, wetlands and a diverse range of forests. Perfect for a twitchathon! I offer simple, clean, self contained accomodation with the roar of the sea, and will take you on guided walks to get you started in the area. Please message me for more information.

I am am a casual, novice birder. I bird when I walk my dog each morning, when on my deck and working in the garden. Even with such a relaxed approach, the list of birds I have identified is substantial! They include;

Regent Bower Bird

Satin Bowerbird
