I know it's been a while since I wrote a post but the progress of the work has been painfully slow. I was hoping the last time i posted, as it seemed feasible, that I would be up and running by Easter; but it looks as though it's going to be the summer.
The dining room floor has been repaired, sanded and stained, and that is looking lovely. Just the wallpaper and curtains to go. The dining room has a new ceiling. The year before last I had a water leak, which left the ceiling with a hole about a metre squared. The ceiling got patched, but when the paper on the ceiling was removed chunks of plaster came away.....so, new ceiling. The snug floor is next for the treatment, and that is pretty much ready to go. The bedrooms are ready. In the biggest bedroom one of the walls has been wallpapered in a Ruskin paper as a nod to what would have been all the rage in 1908 when the house was built.
The garden, which has been down to me is coming on. The crocus are out and daffodils on their way. I have had to replant the front with tulips as my first lot of tulips were trampled by the scaffolders. Last year the tulips really tried to make a comeback but the leaves looked exactly as the scaffolders had left them. This year I have seen a bud and the new ones are just coming through.
When I viewed the house a path had been mowed through the brambles. Comments such as 'over there is a camelia'...😆 were made. I thought....yep I expect there is🤣. It took me from October to January to gut the garden of brambles, do some serious cutting back and discovered a whole corner that I didn't realise was there🤔. Because the rhododendrons, camelias and other shrubs had grown out and up the beds were wide so have taken some filling up....still working on it. I had what I called a 'mystery pile'. A domed piece of ground which when I got onto it revealed about 30 sacks, a bucket and a half of glass, numerous bits of metal, lumps of wood, not forgetting the wire.
I am still in the process of sourcing organic meat and vegetables....harder than you'd think in Cornwall. Soon I shall have to starting making marmalade and jam. I have at long last found some terrific sourdough bread, and they have the best croissants I think I have ever eaten. All their ingredients are organic and the taste of the products are proof of the pudding....awful pun😨.
Anyway.....hopefully I will have news of an opening date the next time I post.
