A brief history of The Townhouse Motel Cowra
Built in 1961, following the demolition of the Clubhouse Hotel, the ‘Travelana Hotel Motel’ was built like an old English style tavern, with a sloping roof. The cream coloured bricks were made at the Cowra brickworks, this being the first deviation from the ‘Cowra Red’ brick.
The Travelana Hotel Motel consisted of two floors. The ground floor comprised of a foyer, dining room, saloon and public bars, and a large lounge capable of seating 100 people. On the top floor the layout consisted of a large conference room, with a buffet and small bar highlighted by an outdoor terrace with shrubs and other greenery. Behind the front hotel section, U shaped motel units were erected with all rooms opening onto an inner courtyard with lawns and a swimming pool for the comfort of guests and travellers.
