As weather turns warmer, snakes become a regular sight in the mountain. In case you see one, don’t panic, stay calm. We would like to share some snake safe tips for the summer season.

Snake Safe Tips — whether you are out and about or on our grounds or on trails in the National Park, be snake aware. If you encounter one, don’t panic, remember they are just part of the ecosystem and they are just going about their own business, they are not here to “attack” you.

Let staff know if you do see one!e

It has been snowing for two days at Cradle Highlander and Cradle Mountain of northwest Tasmania (Australia), everything is white and wet. Our resident wombat Charlie came to say hello and decided to stay.

Charlie left a review afterwards:

- Likes: the wood fireplace makes the cabin nice and warm. The preset fire is indeed a delight!

- Dislikes: I wish I had a bigger TV!

— Overall: 4 out 5!

The Bushman’s Hut — our smallest and oldest cabin. Built in the 80’s to accommodate hikers to Cradle Mountain, this humble cabin is rather “controversial”. It has a hand-made “Bush Bunk Bed” with a double bed at the bottom and a single at the top. Screwed to the wall, it can be accessed from only one side.

It is loved by some for its originality but loathed by others when going to bed means climbing in/out of bed… To us it is a special cabin not only because it is an important part of our history but also because there is a beautiful Pandani standing in front of the cabin, making it the most picturesque cabin among all.

After a dump of snow last two days … the ground is covered with snow which imposes challenges for our housekeeping team.

This is Mitchell clearing snow in front of our Reception.

Although the condition is challenging for our housekeeping team, we are glad guests have the opportunity to experience snow while staying with us!

In May 1965, a school excursion to Cradle Mountain took an unexpected turn. Former students Bernard Hay, Helene Andersen, and Rod Howell recount their experiences from that day. Their invaluable firsthand accounts have been compiled into a video, aiming to educate the community about the events and honour the memory of Ewan Scott and David Kilvert. We sincerely thank Bernard, Helene, and Rod for sharing their stories.

This is the real-life account of what unfolded in May 1965 by three former students. Bernard Hay, Helene Andersen and Rod Howell were students who were on th...
