I want to share a little more of my journey with my young horse Pandora.

I get inspired all the time with how much progress can be made by people even when they are a little time poor. ⌛️

I am in that group as I spend a lot of time on the road 🚙 working as well as focussing on guests at the farm. While I really enjoy the work and the amazing people, sometimes my own horses miss out a bit. 🫣

I think I can definitely demonstrate that quality beats quantity, especially with Pandora - practicing positive behaviours, even if it’s less often, is giving me progress. 📈

Change only one thing at a time and make it easy for the horse - this weeks canter included asking for more strides, same location, same equipment, same rider, same signals.

I think she did ok! 👍 full canter circle each way ✅ ….. got to be happy with that!

What a great week!

Dedicated riders aplenty with frosty 🥶 temperatures (don’t ever say riders are not dedicated…) but loads of fun when the sun came out. 🌞

A great group of riders at the farm finished off my week, spending quality time with their horses and their friends.

All the focus on bridle-less dressage recently has motivated me to film some bridle-less dressage with one of my horses.

I have my own process that I have followed to be able to ride without the need for a bridle - no neck ropes with nails 😓 for me!!

Lots to work on (not least is the video editing…… putting a video together with security footage is a skill in itself 😆) - but this horse rewards my clumsy efforts, bless her 🙏

If you are looking to develop your riding towards less equipment and more accountability to light aids, this may be a pathway for you.

Walking the Talk…..

After an inspiring weekend working with motivated riders and their trusty steeds, I was keen to get back to the farm to my own horses.

When reflecting on these training weekends I often come home and take the time to practice the techniques I talk about - its important to me to “walk the talk” 🤔

I also love watching riders take steps outside their comfort zone and this inspires me to do the same. 🤞

This is me stepping outside my comfort zone and walking my talk ➡️

This beautiful rider has worked extremely hard on all the training, float loading and her personal growth in confidence to FINALLY take her horse off her home property for the first time in years 👏👏 to ride at another place with strange horses and new people.

What’s is so significant about this? 🤔

😎 this is a huge deal for this rider and something that is extremely important to her and has been a huge goal for the longest time.

✅ the rider DID THE WORK
✅ stepped outside her comfort zone
✅ engaged her support crew
✅ trusted herself, her training and her horse
✅ exceeded her own expectations
✅ had FUN 😁

Thanks to Charmaine for the kind use of her lovely property, her time and kindness to share the space with Banana pony and accompany Scarlett and Devine for a wander down the drive after a great ridden session in the arena.

Also big shout out to Devine for keeping her head together when the resident horses did a number of laps of the paddock at speed (was terribly exciting apparently 🤣) when we arrived.

So impressed with this pair! They did not miss a beat 🙏

Having a sound plan is part of the success - this includes horse training, support and mindset.

You don’t need to do this alone, find your support crew - you may be surprised at what you can achieve!

What a week!

We hosted two groups this week - our first group came for some R & R with a couple of lovely horses to enjoy the facilities and the beautiful east coast. I get to meet some amazing people here!

The second group came for the weekend to do some training, expand their boundaries and have a great time with like minded people. The ladies had a load of fun and really made the most of all the equestrian options the farm has to offer - indoor arena, obstacles and the farm trails, quite a jam packed weekend!

There is something for everyone here - if you are looking for a getaway to the beautiful east coast where you can bring you horse, or would like to access some training or just come and ride in a quiet private setting, Brook Cottage may be the place for you.

Finding common ground 🤔

In our journey with our horses, we come across many varied opinions on how we should be doing things.

There is SO much information ℹ️ out there - it can be overwhelming! How do we decide what is right?

I have a set of very clear principles that guide my equestrian and life path and I am thankful for the clarity this brings. I also know that being open minded enough to evaluate new information is definitely a skill, particularly if it appears to be in conflict with what we already believe - a skill that needs practice 🧐

I am working hard to be better at this 🤞and find the common ground - we can always learn something from everyone if we take the time to listen and consider.

I have been very fortunate in my journey with my young horse to have a number of people appear seemingly just at the right time ⏰ to help me along the way ✅

These have been visitors to the farm that have very generously offered their time and skills to help me along the way, how lucky am I?

Support can be a little scarce when you are isolated so being open to all perspectives is really important for progress.

The common ground appears when we are open enough to listen, evaluate and consider these sometimes alternative ideas - no strings attached!

You may just be surprised by how much common ground there is - if you take the time to look 👀

This week I have added some under saddle rides, first trot and first group outing for Pandora.

Mindset 🧘

I want to share this small clip of a lovely combination finding their groove - what changed for them? 🤔

It’s wasn’t some magical epiphany or mystical new technique, it was mindset!

This is a sensitive, green horse and a very capable rider who just needed the right mindset to do her thing - she already had the skills and had put a lot of time into her groundwork and preparation. ✅

The final piece of the puzzle was her mindset 🧩

Awesome rider, awesome horse 🐎 now having fun, and that’s what it’s all really about 😁
