‼️Dangerous conditions forecast tonight and tomorrow.‼️

Heavy rain and very strong winds are expected to increase tonight, bringing dangerous conditions to a large part of the NSW coast.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for an area between Taree and Bega. The conditions are expected to worsen tonight in areas including the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Sydney, Illawarra and South Coast.

Heavy rain may cause flash flooding, and river heights could rise rapidly over and above what has been experienced in the past few days. This could happen during the night.

Strong winds are expected which could cause trees and powerlines to fall. Landslides are also possible, which could block roads.

If you live on or near a river, creek or stream, or an area at risk, particularly if it’s already in flood, stay up to date and be ready to take action.

Monitor the latest forecast and warnings overnight as the situation continues to rapidly evolve.

If you are in a low lying area or close to rivers or streams:
🔹 Stay up to date through the night by monitoring the BOM website at www.bom.gov.au

🔹Monitor conditions in your local area. It may be safer to relocate now to a safer place such as a friend or family member’s home away from flood areas.

🔹Listen to local radio and keep your mobile phone charged and nearby.

🔹If you receive a warning from the NSW SES, take it seriously and take action immediately.

If you need help with flooding call ☎️ the NSW SES on 132 500

If your life is at risk in an emergency, call ☎️ 000

The Public Information Inquiry Centre is open on 1800 227 228.

‼️ Important Update - Water quality issue at Culburra Beach

Council is advising beachgoers to avoid ocean recreational activity in the Culburra Beach area due to heavy rainfall that has occurred over the last few days and the forecast predicting this to continue.

Residents are advised to not swim, surf, or beach fish between Crookhaven Lighthouse, in the north, and Bull Hole Lookout, in the south at Kinghorne due to the uncontrollable risk of pollution from stormwater and sewerage systems.

Staff are continuing to closely monitor the system, river flows and sewerage operations.

COVID affecting Council too

Council, like many businesses in our region, is experiencing staff shortages due to the latest surge in COVID cases.

What people may see in the community is the grass not being mowed on time, the Recycling & Waste Depots closed temporarily, your bin not picked up on the scheduled day, or perhaps your regular gym instructor isn’t available to take the class.

If a service is missed, we will get to it as soon as possible, we ask that the community be patient as staff do their best with the staff that they have available.
