Jeepers creepers, where'd you get those peepers? 👀

The Papuan Frogmouth (Podargus papuensis) is the largest frogmouth by length and is common in north-east Australia (from Townsville to Cooktown) and PNG.

Our friends at Red Mill House Bed & Breakfast tell us these beauties are regularly sighted along Barratt Creek, Daintree River, and Stewart Creek Road. So, if you're in the area and you hear a resonant 'ooom' or a laughing hoot, you are probably in the presence of a Papuan Frogmouth.

It's time for us to say goodbye

It's taken me a week to be able to write this post as our family took some much needed time to stand back and take a breath.

We can confirm that we have sold our beloved Red Mill House and that it will no longer be run as a business.

We have enjoyed every part of our 4 years at Red Mill House and have some wonderful memories. We have endured 100 year floods, bushfire backlash, covid, two broken vertebrates, a collapsed walkway (no injuries) many maintenance challenges, big renovations, chemo therapy and a 1 year old in the mix.

Red Mill House has been many things to many people over the last 90 years, to us it was a chance for our family to come together and re learn our love for nature and community.

We will still be carrying on with this page if our friends want to touch base or catch up for a culpa when you next visit North Queensland. Likely you will find Tina sitting by a creek with her binos and G&T enjoying her retirement. Dad will enjoy catching up on his beloved Dockers footy team and me, well I have found a very happy balance with my young family and amazing new job.

You will still see me posting to our Destination Daintree page and volunteering my time on the board of directors. My new part time venture in community services, be it with tourism or the more vulnerable community sector has afforded me much fulfilment.

So from our family to yours, thank you. Thank you for sharing your stories, laughs, knowledge on nature and travel stories. You are all truly unforgettable.

In these crazy times take care of yourselves, be kind, tread lightly and remember to always practice gratitude. We are so blessed.

A special thanks to our incredible travel agents who continued to work so closely with us over the last 4 years.

Much love
Todd family

❤️❓❓Do you know Tina?

😍 Tina (aka mum) is our resident artisan curator in the kitchen.

👉It is safe to say she is an artist of the most delicious homemade breakfast creations.

😌 I'm a little bit jealous of mums amazing ability to be able to match and pair the most interesting flavours and balance everything in one tasty explosion.

😋Tina's passion for food earned her a mention in Visit Queensland, Australia as one of the 'Can't-beat-it breakfasts in the Daintree!

Well done mum🥰

🤔This guy was turtely out of his mind when he decided to make a crawl for it across our driveway to our pond! 🐢🐢

🤞We quickly relocated him to the pond where he would be safe.

📷Zoom in and check out the claws!

❓Did you know that Saw Shell Turtles are one of the few predators to the Cane Toad? Toads and frogs that are to big to digest are first shredded with these claws.😲🐸

Breakfast is served! 🍽

🥚When requested we ditch the traditional bacon and eggs and treat guests to a more adventurous breakfast spoil!!

🌯Recent foodie lovers were treated this amazing spanish omelette.

🧀So what was inside? Spanish cheese, porchetta, spanish sausage, tomato, spinach, caramelized onion, wrapped in a light fluffy omelette and drizzled with hot sauce and served with pan charred sourdough.

🥓But if you still love your old style English big brekkie of bacon and eggs, don' worry we do that too!

🤔So who doesn't love a morning snuggle right???

❤These two love birds have recently pulled up a day perch right next to my car in Newell Beach.

🖒Today they enjoyed some early morning spooning in the sunshine and consequently hadn't moved much when I got home at 5pm!

A weary eyed juvenile in tow, a little more interested in my coming and going.
