Today was the first time ever making honey from the 3 frames pulled out last week from the PENDOWER bees....1 used as cut honeycomb & 2 frames spun to make honey..... made about 7 jars... great fun but what a mess...i have honey and wax every surface, my clothes, hair, door handles, kettle, floor and little bit in the jars! Definitely new respect for bees and honey producers!

The first of anything is always exciting and etched into our memories..... Today is the first time i have asked my little bees at Pendower if its okay if i share some of their sweet smelling honey..... and i have taken one frame of golden honey.... my very first. No grumpy bees, no fumbling (that's me..... mmm!!) feeling very brave, and totally amazed at these little busy super duper giving little bees. Love my bees

Pendower has its newest guest.... and these are long time gals. We hope to have some honey in the near future... with all the lovely flowers in the area our girls are very busy....

We'd like you to meet someone really special... Zefferina Cerolini - aka Penso - who walked into the gallery today.

Penso boarded at The Convent between 1951-1953. Arriving in Australia from Italy, her parents who were in the Migrant Camp at Bonnegilla sent her all the way to Daylesford by train. She was just 13. Not speaking a word of English, she caught the train to Melbourne and then to Daylesford to meet two of the sisters at the station who took her to her new home.

She remembers being frustrated and crying because of the language barriers. She recalls an older retired nun who took her under her wing, and spent hours teaching her English.

Her mother had her communion dress turned into two white shirts for her to wear as her school uniform by another migrant at the camp.

Penso talked of the times at the Convent today. She showed us where her bed was and spoke about her friend who she lost contact with. How she had braids when arrived, but cut her hair to be more manageable and the students dubbed her "Coconut head". She told us how the sisters would sleep next door and yell "Zefferina!!" when she continued talking to the other girls late in the night.

Penso recalls the Convent as a very happy place and a place she will never forget "I was terribly sad when I had to leave, The Convent was my home".
