One of our favourites in Deep Creek, the Boat Harbour Circuit Hike takes you through the park to some spectacular views across the Southern Ocean, Kangaroo Island, The Pages and Tunkalilla Beach.

Those keen to make the descent can continue down to Boat Harbour Beach, a secluded rocky cove where Boat Harbour Creek meets the ocean. The spot is also known for the large pod of dolphins that love to hang out there on sunny days!

The walk is challenging in some parts, with steep sections and a brief segment of rock scrambling, so come prepared with good shoes and plenty of time to enjoy it all.

The trailhead is just a short drive from our accommodation, making for a great half-day adventure while you’re staying with us in Deep Creek.

While you’re here: Fleurieu Gin 🍸

Around half an hour from Deep Creek, Fleurieu Gin is a lovely stop for a long lunch or afternoon tipple while you’re exploring the peninsula.

Set among the rolling hills near Myponga, you’ll find locally made gin, cocktails, tasting flights, and food, with some pretty fantastic views in the background.

Creature Feature: Southern Right Whale 🐋

Whale season is beginning to wind down on the Fleurieu, so there are only a few more weeks to spot one of our biggest seasonal visitors.

Growing up to 17.5 metres long and weighing more than 80 tonnes, southern right whales are pretty hard to miss when they surface close to shore.

Each winter, they migrate north from their sub-Antarctic feeding grounds to the warmer, sheltered waters along southern Australia to mate, calve and raise their young before heading south again.

They’re easy to recognise by their broad backs, lack of a dorsal fin, and the rough white patches on their heads known as callosities.

Within Deep Creek, Tapanappa Lookout and the headlands around Blowhole Beach are both great whale-watching spots. Our guests often report having the most luck scanning the water from the park’s elevated coastal lookouts.

So for the next few weeks, keep your eyes on the horizon for these gentle giants before they make their way south again.
