The old adage ‘want something done give it to a busy person’ is multiplied by 2.
Susi and I are power machines at getting things done.
This is our 5th winter here in Deepwater. Our energy, ideas and capacity to do what we say we’re going to do keeps on keeping on.
From one small idea, a seed was planted. What if we could set up a country and western style op shop here in Deepwater. For 6 years our mental health resource (Australia’s #1) Just One Reason continues to grow and save lives!
During this time worried parents who know the instant benefit Just One Reason can bring to a teenager, frequently write to us, comment on line that this tiny book should be available to all teenagers across Australia.
But crikey how could we afford to give away 10’s of thousands of books?
Then the light went on!!
We’ve got an empty shop next to the pub. Hasn’t been occupied for decades. What if we renovated it, used it for an op shop specialising in recycled country and western clothing.
Volunteers can help process the clothing donations and then use these funds from selling the donated gear to start gifting LOTS of Just One Reason books to high schools.
What if unwanted country clothing could become mental health books for young Australians?
Old RM Williams boots.
Old Akubra hats.
Old Thomas Cook jeans.
Old Ringers Western shirts.
Not thrown away.
Not forgotten.
