THE LEGEND LIVES ON!!!
Words cannot describe just how excited we are about the reopening of The Conargo Pub.
The pub, originally known as the Billabong Hotel, was built in 1867. Later named The Conargo Pub it became one of rural Australia’s best-known hotels. Pub stickers grace utes and cars across Australia and the hotel's walls were adorned with photographs honouring the district's strong links to the stud Merino industry.
The hotel was also known as a popular meeting point for generations of jackaroos and jillaroos working on the region's pastoral stations.
The centrepiece of Conargo, its loss was devastating when in 2014 a fire gutted the historic building.
BUT, thanks to the hard work and dedication of four amazing locals - it is reopening!! 🤩🎊🤩
Get out and support them when visiting next, or maybe even hire Olina and stay at one of the beautiful camp grounds just a short walking distance away and make it a night to remember.
📍 Where is Conargo?
Just 25 minutes’ drive north east of Deniliquin, the Conargo village sits on the Billabong Creek which many claim is the longest creek in Australia. While the village is small, it services several large sheep stations and merino studs. The merino breed has its origins in the Riverina, and the Interpretive Centre in Conargo tells the story of this important animal’s influence on the fortunes of the region, and the entire nation.
