Well, here we are, over 14 years down the track, and it's time to say farewell. It's been quite the ride. We may not have seen eye to eye all the time, but we always managed to get there in the end.
You arrived just after Yasi in 2011. The Lodge had been closed for a few years, and we had a huge task ahead to put it back on the map. You watched as contractors and builders ensured that everything was done correctly. It was only a short time, and we already felt that you were indispensable. The Lodge was ready for business in just six months.
In 2013, along came Oswald, and we were sure we missed a bullet. Sitting, enjoying a coffee, gloat, and then came the horrendous thud. Down came a huge tree that took out Cabins 13 & 14.
Remnants of Cyclone Ita in 2014, I think this is when the Damage to the igloos and carports occurred.
Lots of flooding, trees, and rubbish in between and since, but nothing of great significance until Jasper appeared on our doorstep, Christmas 2023.
During every major event, you were here to advise, clean up, and repair.
WE cannot begin to express how much we will miss you and need you to know that you are irreplaceable. We can’t count how many times we may have mentioned something in passing, and “viola,” it was done or in the process of being done. Sometimes it was still only a thought, and you beat us to the post.
Your workmanship and craftsmanship were undeniable. Your work ethic is unparalleled. Your beautiful gardens that you have created and maintained, hopefully, will stand the test of time.
Ok, so you may have let the Bus Drivers know what you really thought, but no doubt they deserved it.
We were foolish enough to think you would always be here and part of our lives, but all great things must come to an end. Now it's time to say goodbye and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for walking in all those years ago and being such a force in the day-to-day operations of Heritage Lodge.
