So many reasons to visit us in Dubbo…. 😁❤️

Thinking you need a break? 😁

For almost 50 years, the Taronga Western Plains Zoo has been one of Dubbo’s biggest drawcards. Opening in 1977 as Australia’s first open-range zoo, it’s unlike your typical zoo experience. This is a 5km wildlife adventure, where you can explore by car, bike or on foot and get up close to incredible animals from across the globe.

Think giraffes, rhinos, elephants, lions, cheetahs, monkeys and more — all living in enormous open spaces that make you feel like you’ve stepped into their world.

And the best part? You can’t really do the zoo justice in a couple of hours. Make a weekend of it. Come to Dubbo, stay a few nights, explore the zoo, discover our food and enjoy our country hospitality.

If you love Meerkats as much as we do, in Dubbo, you can even step inside the Meerkat habitat with a Zoo Keeper and get close to them!

Press really needs no introduction—it's a true Dubbo institution, and we're lucky enough to have it just 40 steps from our front door!

We pop in every day (sometimes more than once!), and it's become a favourite for so many of our guests too. Having such an incredible café and such a welcoming team right across the road is something we never take for granted.

A huge thank you to everyone at Press for keeping us well-fed, perfectly caffeinated, and happy. It's been a pleasure getting to know you all.

And of course, Sammy and Sizzle are always happy to stop by for one of Michael's treats! 🐾

If you're staying with us, make sure Press is at the top of your must-visit list.

The Macquarie River runs through the heart of Dubbo and Dubbo Council have developed a great pathway that stretches along its banks, and every afternoon we come down here with the sausages to soak up the beautiful trees, fresh air and of course the incredible river.

5 Quick Facts About the Macquarie River:

1. The Macquarie River flows right through the heart of Dubbo and is just a one-minute walk from Quest Dubbo.
2. It stretches for around 960 km, beginning near Bathurst before winding through Central West NSW.
3. The river is also known by its traditional Wiradjuri name, Wambuul, meaning “winding river.”
4. Dubbo’s beautiful riverside walking and cycling paths extend for over 13 km, making them perfect for a morning stroll or afternoon walk.
5. Keep an eye out for local wildlife—you might spot pelicans, ducks, turtles, kingfishers and, if you’re lucky, even a platypus!

14 years ago, this incredible lady started her journey with Quest Dubbo!

Over the years, she has remained a constant through three different owners, countless changes within the hotel, and no doubt many milestones and challenges in her own life.

In the short time we've been part of Quest Dubbo, one thing has become abundantly clear – it's the people who make this place.

Leonie, your commitment, loyalty, and dedication to both your work and Quest Dubbo are nothing short of remarkable. Your leadership, knowledge, and care for your team shine through every day, and we are so grateful to have you on this journey with us.

Congratulations on an amazing 14 years of service and for leading your team with such passion and professionalism. Here's to celebrating everything you've contributed and all that still lies ahead.

💙 Thank you, Leonie, for being such an important part of the Quest Dubbo family. 🎉👏

What a absolute treat to have Sheila Laxon and the Melbourne Cup spend the weekend with us at Quest Dubbo, whilst embarking on the first leg of the Melbourne Cup Tour around Australia, at Wallget Races.

Since 1919, the famous three-handled cup has symbolised the partnership between horse, jockey and trainer, and every year a brand-new trophy is handcrafted from 18-carat gold for the winning owner.

One of the most remarkable Melbourne Cup memories is that of Sheila Laxon. In 2001, she made history as the first woman to officially train a Melbourne Cup winner when Ethereal stormed home at Flemington. More than two decades later, she returned to the winner’s circle in 2024 with Knight’s Choice, making her the only female trainer to win two!

We recently had Olympic swimming legend Cate Campbell staying at Quest Dubbo while filming a Quest promotional campaign for our Electric Vehicle chargers.

As Quest’s National Ambassador, Cate is an incredible advocate for the brand, but what impressed us most was her georgeousness. She was an absolute pleasure to host.

And as an added bonus, she loves dogs just as much as we do! 🐾😁

Introducing Quest Dubbo’s security duo:

1) Sizzle (tan long dog) - 10yrs🤔, not overly well-trained but is coming good, loves cheese, waterskiing, car trips and sleeping. And the opposite to his farming roots, he hates damp conditions under 🐾 .

2) Sammy (black and tan long dog) - younger than Sizzle and less complex…loves people, food and more food.

Both have adapted well to city life and are naturals to their new office based roles.

They have been relatively happily married since covid!🤎

Local family takes over Quest Dubbo with plans for major refurbishment.

Thursday 28th May 2026

A family with deep roots in the Central West has taken the reins at Quest Dubbo, with plans for a major refurbishment project already in the early stages of development.

The Maurice family this week officially stepped into ownership and management of the business, bringing decades of experience across agribusiness, banking, farming, interior design, marketing and strategic leadership.

The family has farmed in the Spicers Creek region for almost 100 years and maintains strong ties to both Dubbo and Wellington communities.

Jim Maurice will lead the property management side of the business, drawing on more than 20 years’ experience in agribusiness, commercial banking and real estate.

Lindy Maurice previously dedicated more than 20 years to the Australian thoroughbred racing and breeding industry and is best known as the founder of Thoroughbred Industry Careers, a national organisation focused on attracting and training young people for careers in racing. In 2024, she received the inaugural Racing Women of the Year award in recognition of her contribution to the industry.

The broader Maurice family, including Jim’s siblings Kate, Angus and Hugh, will also support the operation behind the scenes, with artist and interior designer Kate Maurice and her husband Alex Scheibner who is well known sculpture and blacksmith.
Kate is a multidisciplinary designer whose global travels and creative background in fashion, visual arts and sustainable development have shaped her distinctive approach to interiors and design. Now based in Rylstone NSW with her husband, artist and blacksmith Alex Scheibner, she co-creates bespoke interior, exterior and exhibition pieces through their collaborative creative practice.

The new owners said they were excited to build on Quest Dubbo’s strong reputation while strengthening connections with the local community and business sector.
“We’re proud to be continuing the next chapter of Quest Dubbo as a locally connected family business,” Jim and Lindy Maurice said.

“Dubbo is a thriving regional centre, and we’re excited about the opportunity to invest in the property, support local tourism and business, and create an exceptional experience for guests visiting the region.”

The transition also marks the conclusion of ownership for Kamal and Amy, who have been thanked for their contribution to the business and the local accommodation sector.

The investment comes at a time of strong growth for the Dubbo region, with major infrastructure and renewable energy projects underway, including the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone and ongoing upgrades to Dubbo Hospital.

As one of regional New South Wales’s key tourism and business centres — and home to Taronga Western Plains Zoo — Dubbo continues to attract both corporate and leisure travellers.
