Wangat Lodge

Wangat Lodge Wangat is perfect for a family holiday or celebration, retreat workshop, wedding, social interest group gathering or team-building event.

Wangat lodge is a secluded venue, nestled in the forest, on the banks of the stunning Chichester River - providing accommodation for groups of 2-58! In December 2017, Dan Lyons and his wife, Verity Keniger became proud owners of the majestic Wangat Lodge. Their hope is to share Wangat’s wonders with as many people as possible, with an emphasis on accessibility and inclusion for all. Many of their

customers are large groups of friends and family who return year after year and for whom Wangat will, in no small way, become theirs. A lodge stay is a unique experience hosted by Dan & the Wangat team, who engage both adults and children with nature, in an unforgettable way. Dan's passion for the outdoors is infectious - he is able to prompt curiosity, inspiring those around him to learn about the forest, bush foods, animal tracks, river life and more! Set in superb natural surroundings, including 50 acres of pristine bush and a forest amphitheatre. Guests can relax and enjoy the lodge’s rustic charm and engage in outdoor activities, including bush walks, swimming and mountain biking. Wangat also offers school holiday programs, venue hire, outdoor education experiences and relaxed evenings playing board games or reading by the crackling wood fire.

Ever seen a platypus in the wild? Thanks to Wangat's protected riparian (river side) habitat we have a number of platypuses living in the river here! AND, thanks to the absolute legend, Katherine Warwick (post doctorial research fellow at Western Sydney University- soon to be Dr Kat!!), who has adopted Wangat as another location for her extensive river health and platypus research efforts, we had this experience...even better, during our Currawong Camp for teens!! (Find out more about our teen camps during school holidays - go to www.wangat.com.au/currawong-teens-camp)

Kat and her colleague Maddie, were able to safely trap this healthy female platypus and demonstate to the teens on our Teen Camp the sampling proceedure before we rekeased her back into her river. What a highlight for the teens (and me 😁)

We had the honour to name her - she was named after that evenings wholesome dinner, Japanese tofu katsu - "Platsue" 🤠.

If you want to be inspired, you MUST FOLLOW Kat - (insta) - not only an amazing ecologist and researcher, but a passionate and brilliant conservationist and educator!!

Join me on for Deep Dives with Dan every Wednesday, 5-6.30pm. Stream through radiodungog.org.

Today, my youth voice is Claire Harvey, who is a passionate SES - - volunteer, a member of the Youth Committee in Dungog and an all round legend! Listen to hear how she got involved in SES at a young age, and why she cares so much.

Plus usual "Dan rambles" on my life of trial and error. Baking sourdough and makeling bush furniture.
