River trout season opens on Saturday September 5! You know what that means…😃

Yep, the FREE Goulburn Fishing Festival 2026 is coming BACK to Eildon and the Goulburn River, and there’s 2,000 reasons you should be going…2,000 STONKER rainbows, that is!!

We’ll once again be releasing these trophy trout weighing up to 5kg each at several sites along the Goulburn River and Eildon Pondage, giving you the chance to snag that fish of lifetime. 😉

There’ll also be guided tours of our iconic Snobs Creek hatchery, showcasing how we grow trout and Chinook salmon each year, alongside our native fish conservation program including Macquarie perch and trout cod. No bookings required! Just rock up between 9am and 2pm and enjoy.

Want to get the kids fishing? Book them into a free fishing clinic guided by experts from Fishcare Victoria Inc. at Eildon Pondage, and help our Snobs Creek hatchery team stock rainbow trout into the Pondage too!

At Lions Park in Eildon, there’ll be the usual fishing festivities, kids activities, cooking demos, food trucks and market stalls from 9am till 2pm. For those making a weekend of it and staying over, we’ll have live music, a pop-up bar and dinner food truck from 4pm, with fireworks scheduled for 7pm to light up the pondage and end a perfect evening.

So, whether you’re a keen trout fisher itching for an outing on the Goulburn or looking for your first experience of our great pastime with family and friends, get along for a wonderful day (or epic weekend!) in the great outdoors.
