Let's be honest. There are so many terms floating around now that it's hard to keep up.

Biodegradable. Compostable. Home compostable. Recyclable. Degradable. Oxo-degradable.
And then we added "landfill biodegradable" to the mix. 😅

So what's the difference?

The thing is, most of these terms aren't necessarily competing with each other. They're designed for different end-of-life outcomes.
- Compostable products are designed to break down in composting environments.
- Recyclable products are designed to be collected, sorted and recycled into new materials.
- And landfill-biodegradable products are designed for something else entirely.

The reality is that not every piece of plastic gets recycled. Not every compostable item ends up in a compost system. And despite our best intentions, a lot of waste still ends up in landfill.

That's not the ideal outcome.
It's just the reality.

Our products are designed to biodegrade approximately 90% faster in modern landfill conditions compared to regular plastics.

Does that mean recycling isn't important? Of course not.

Does it mean compostable products don't have a place? Absolutely not.

We see landfill-biodegradable plastics as another tool in the toolbox.

Figuring out a solution for plastic waste isn't about finding one perfect answer. It's about recognising that different products end up in different places, despite our best intentions, and designing for that reality.

Because the truth is, not every household, business or industry can completely change the way they operate overnight. So alongside recycling, composting and waste reduction, there also needs to be practical solutions for the reality of today, for the world we live in right now - not just the ideal version of tomorrow. 😊
