Hello friends... your friendly pub ghost here...
The Club Hotel was once the Central Hotel... I was shifted by bullock team from a location that was long reported to be "the other side of the creek". I was only young then and my old brain is fuzzy on where my first stumps were located. I am not sure the verbal record is spot on tbh.... bloody hard to pull a pub through a sandy creek hey. There is an old hand drawn map (anglican priest c1890s) that shows the Central Hotel being located just town side of the bridge....opposite the current Visitors Information Centre. The pubs on the Ipswich side of the bridge were The Royal and the lesser known Travellers Rest (on extension of Middle St). Speaking as an old classic building with long checkered history... I really miss being part of the Esk Community. Maybe one day the Club will live again. Until that time get along to another club or great country pub. Have a beer for me... a 5 with a rum chaser... if you can get em'
