I love that we can offer our guests our own freshly baked sourdough with their brekkie supplies.

This morning we baked a few 100% wholegrain rye sourdough tin loaves for us as well - thanks for the inspo !

They are pretty delicious if rye is your thing and I’m wondering if we should offer guests a choice between a traditional sourdough load (see pic 2), or one of these tasty little rye numbers.

What to do with ALL THE QUINCES?
Here’s one recipe!

Our very own Champion, and I, picked bowls and boxes of these beautiful, aromatic quinces (variety Champion) in our garden this morning.

We’ll give as many to our friends and guests at the Retreat as they would like.
We’ll poach and freeze some for winter treats and preserve the rest.

I needed to look no further than ’s beautiful book, A Basket by the Door for inspo. Ever generous, Sophie’s happy for me to share one of the recipes I’ll be using in the pics above. I’ll substitute quinces in the fig cobbler as Soph suggests.

But truly, do yourself a favour and buy this book, maybe throw a few hints out for Mother’s Day, or even better, gift one! I’m pretty sure it will become a favourite.

This old(ish) farmer, can fix most things.

Here he is .p.bakery, fixing the flour mill with the help of YouTube, several croissants and at least a dozen coffees.

I may, or may not have done something to upset the ute while he’s been away,but that’s a job for another day …
